I am a currently a dealer at The Mandalay Bay, I am concerned about job security I need my job!  I wish that the dealers would have woken up in the beginning of this TWU Union drive.  Now it has been a year and we are in the same spot. We have no protection against the management doing just about anything they want and use the "Economy" status as an excuse. And the reason I say "excuse" is because that does not have to be the reason (as always). What can we do to get the dealers on "board" so to speak, without exposing myself. Do we have to fill out cards again? I want the TWU Union with them we will have some one to go to when we have an issue that represent me! And not have to go it alone as we have been. I will send in another card if that is necessary, but what else can I do to help?

Hi Fellow Dealer, I am glad to hear from you, and I am happy to hear that you want to help with the organization of the dealers. I believe that most of the dealers out there and at the Mandalay Bay all want to keep their jobs.  Yes, it has been a year and we do have to update our card information. As well as recruit more dealers, the more the better it would enforce our ability to Unite as a whole. Yes unfortunately the MGM?Mirage can just about do what ever they want and use the "Economy Status"  as a reason. And really just "clean house" and rid themselves of whom ever they don't like or may be costing them money as far as the insurance coverage. However I have to say they have been very careful as to how they are doing this process of elimination.  We may look as if we are not paying attention but trust me we ARE!  The TWU is waiting for us,as soon as we have all the cards we need in we will have that wonderful vote. Then we can have representation that will listen to our side and protect us from the management's favoritism which we still see every day. Please do update your TWU Card and send it in and if you feel you have co-workers that you can talk to ask them to fill a card all we need is one dealer to talk to one other dealer even on another shift and before you know we will have all our cards in!  Thank You for you correspondence and remember:  UNITED WE BARGAIN, DIVIDED WE BEG!!!

NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR FUTURE!!!!

08-23-08 From a Mandalay Bay Dealer:

I have been a dealer for over 35 years including out of the United states and I thought I had seen it all. But ,now I have to say that the dealers at the Mandalay Bay are really sleeping. I can see the writing on the wall. They have these dealers thinking everything is different at the MGM/Mirage, That is not so! All they are waiting for is that Steve Wynn wins his case and they will jump on that.  Why wouldn't they,  think about it all the properties involved at 5-7million a year they would be the worst business men if they didn't. And probably get themselves fired . Do you think that Mr. Hornbuckle or Mr. Fields are going to put their jobs on the line for us? Forget about it! Wake up and smell the roses, send in your card and vote union YES it cannot hurt us you will then have representation .Or are you waiting for an incident to occur when then it's too late. Trust me I've heard it from the "horse's" mouth when you have an incident and they suspend you pending investigation and all of a sudden that dealer is back, They made him believe that they did him or her a favor, Now the dealer returns saying "Oh they were great they gave me another chance!"  But guess what don't sneeze, cough or look the wrong way because that's when they will get you. And now they will say "Well he or she had a lot of chances and blew it"! That's the new way now. Look around you think about it.

Thank You for your thoughts on this topic. Yes, sometimes we feel the dealers are sleeping and living an unrealistic dream. MGM/Mirage management does have a lot of the dealers thinking that we as employees of MGM/Mirage are "Special".  Even if Wynn was to win his debate on the return of the Wynn Dealers tokes and all other casinos jump on that and started to seizing dealers tokes, do you really believe it will not happen to us?  I don't think so, But as you my friend mentioned in your feedback and I am agreeing with you, the dealers are living in LaLa land.                    (as Imentioned before in feedback #84).  It is to bad that the seizing of our tokes is  what it will take for the dealers to wake up. Then I am afraid it will be to late to get back the monies that they seize. That's what the hold up is with the Wynn dealers. They have negotiated their insurance coverage and they have negotiated many other issues that they had, but when it comes to getting their money back that's where the problem begins all over again. So Hang in their my fellow dealer our time will come, and we will UNITE and be as ONE!!  So dealers keep sending in those signed Confidential TWU Cards, remember this is only giving you the option to vote YES or no on the dealers Uniting to protect our Tokes, our Insurance and most important OUR FUTURE!!!

NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR FUTURE!!!!

Those dealers that voted for the TWU and now that they lost are they still going to have a job? I know that they can try again next Year but , will the
Rio  be rid of all the IHO's since now they know who they are before the next  vote?  Seems like this should be a concern to the dealers. Because everything  that  affects them is a reflection of what may happen to the rest.

Workers are protected under federal law. You have the right to organize, these laws came about when unions were first started. The hotel are very aware of these laws that is why they educate their management employees in how to handle union activities. They do not want to risk law suits and or fines from the government for illegal firings.

07-27-08 From a Mandalay Bay Day Shift Dealer:

Hi I am a dealer at Mandalay Bay. I can't understand what happened with the Rio Dealers, Supposedly they had the vote in the "bag" and they lost terribly.   This is what a lot of dealers are talking about. Are they still safe with their jobs? Does management know who was voting yes and no? and do they know everyone that voted?.

"Captive audience meetings" is what happened. Rio management decided to hold mandatory meetings for almost all their dealers during the weeks prior to the union election. The purpose of these meetings was to convince the dealers to vote "no" at the election. They were a success. But to refer to them as "meetings" was a bit of a travesty, as most would assume interaction to be allowed. Not the case here; no questions, no comments, not a peep from the dealers. It was understood that if a dealer even tried to interject his or her opinions, they would be bluntly asked to leave and labeled as an "in house organizer" (IHO). So for one non-stop hour, once or twice a week, dealers had to endure speech after speech of the evils of unionization. Most consisted of lies: the mandatory union dues, how they could lose their current benefits, and how they could and would cut their base pay. Most of the Latino and Asian dealers were especially targeted during these "captive audience meetings" as management considered them easy targets.
You asked if management knows how they voted? No, not how they voted, but probably if they voted, which really means nothing, since it could be a yes or a no, which ever they decide to admit to. Remember management has no legal right to ask. As for the Rio dealers being safe in their jobs, who knows! Promises were made, but the dealers voted to remain "at will Employees" witch essentially means they are at management's mercy and working conditions and benefits can be changed at any time. I know their tokes have taken a nose-dive ever since the "no" vote. Coincidence?

Many Rio dealers believe that failing to vote the Dealers Union in, might    help them land a position at the Encore, believing that Wynn might
rewards their actions. But think again guys, Steve Wynn doesn't know who voted yes and who voted no. He only knows that there was a union drive at the Rio. That's right, he's boycotting the Rio no matter what. So good luck to you guys, you're going to need it!!!

I have been a dealer since day one. Have never worked for a more corrupt corporation. Pencils that steal. Management that screws you. Racism and hatred. Worked for union shops before becoming a dealer. Want better pay and benefits? Job security? Vote for a union. Corporations always say you will get laid off. Corporations always say the union is bad. If you ever worked for a union before you know the benefits. If you haven't worked for a union please join one. No more corporate bull. Go union.

Thank you for your feedback. Although some of your views are a bit strong, I believe the message you are trying to covey to our readers is that MGM/Mirage will do whatever it can to keep it's dealers as "at will" employees. Simply put this means they want to remain in total control of our futures (or lack there of), and call all the shots as it pertains to our benefits, pay scale, and our tokes. "At will" means we are at THEIR will, and they can change their own rules as it suits them and we have no say in our futures. However if we were to join the Las Vegas Dealers Local 721 union, our "at will" status would dissolve and instead we would negotiate all of our working conditions and benefits through a collective bargaining agreement. And as for corporations declaring that unions are less than beneficial, well that's true; FOR THEM! Yes initially unions tend to cost corporations more money, but in the long run unions usually benefit them as well. A better compensated employee translates to a happier and more productive employee which in turn helps bring in more profits for everyone including the corporations. It's a win-win really. So if you haven't already done so, get those authorization cards/forms in right away so we can vote the Dealers Union in and protect our present and our futures!

I am a dealer at the Mandalay Bay since day one . I have never worked at a place where they are so prejudice against the Handicap. They have done everything they can to make it difficult for us to get around, either for a break, or to our vehicle. There have been dealers that have given up and had to quit because of it. Everyday we have a new rule imposed on us "Don't go out this way, Don't use the bathrooms upstairs," They just don't want us and are making up these rules to make our job performance even more difficult . All day you wonder while you are on your game, "Are they going to write me up?" Maybe because I walked in thru the handicap entrance for the patrons because I also am Handicapped. Will my car be towed even though I have Handicapped Place card or Plates. Can they do this? How far are they going to go before someone does something about it? I hope the Dealers Union can help us with this as well.

Thank You for sharing your concerns with our readers. And yes disabled workers have rights also. They have the right to park in designated disabled parking spaces where ever available. This means that if you can't find an available space on levels 5 or 6, by law you may park in a disabled space on any of the lower levels. That's the law, and you can't be  reprimanded for it, however the Las Vegas Dealers Local 721 Union can and will clarify this in our ratified contract so that there will be no gray areas to be miss-understood by either side. Also our union can negotiate any thing we wish to simplify life for our fellow disabled dealers. Being in a union means that we are part of a team, looking out for each other.

We as Dealers have to protect our jobs, we have to stand up before we don't  have a job. These corporate head honchos are greedy bloodsuckers
They  don't care about us but how much more profit can they gain through us. Then they sugar coat  it by making it look like we are important to them. That is a crock, the only way we're important is only through their financial interest. Dealers this is  not like the old days where you really were made to feel like part of the family when you were employed by a casino. WAKE UP!  It is all Corporate now and they can  hide behind that when it  comes down to you or them. Don't be deceived by that  "We care" and "How are you  today" and that fake smile.

The history of corporations show they will do whatever they have to do to protect themselves.  That means that in tough times they will lay off employees, cut benefits, look for other ways to compromise employees, like using your tips to pay management. It is time for the dealers to do what they have to do! Time is on the side of management , dealers have to act quickly to protect themselves. Dealers need the protection of the union. Sign a card immediately. Time is not on our side.

Remember, working in a "right to work state" such as Nevada, when we vote in a union, we are not required to pay dues to that union. We
will however be entitled to share in the full benefits and wage increases the union negotiates on our behalf. What will we gain by joining the "Las Vegas Dealers Local 721"?

1. The right to negotiate with management over; higher wages, better benefits such as more sick days, more holidays, more vacation days, better working conditions, higher matches on our 401-k, and no caps on our annual raises.
2. We will no longer be categorized as "at will employees". We can no longer be fired or suspended without cause.
3. We will no longer be required to work on our regularly scheduled days off.
4. Since our present "Status Quo" will be locked in, no new policy changes can be implemented by management without
negotiating in good faith with our union.
5. We will no longer be subjected to automatic warnings, write ups, or any disciplinary action without the benefits of representation as in the form of a shop steward.

These are some of the reasons that management is fighting so hard to suppress our union drive. Don't Let Them! Send in an authorization
form today to secure our future!

In response to #101, why are you depending on Mirage and Mandalay Bay to  get  for to get the ball rolling for your own casino?  Dealers of each  casino
must get the ball rolling themselves!   What exactly are you waiting for?  Get going now because the sooner  you get  motivated with your own coworkers, the sooner you lock in your status  quo, and the sooner you get your Contract.  Somebody, sometime at your casino is going to have to get things  going.  It
may as well be you and now.

I am also very disappointed in the Mandalay Bay Dealers.  There is a very strong wait and see  attitude, bordering on a just plain ignorance. The longer the dealers wait, the more they are not going to like what they see. I.E. wage caps, insurance premium increases, reduction in 401K matches, toke seizure and redistribution and above all job security!!!

Hello I think all dealers at Mandalay Bay should let go of there imaginary security blankets and Vote Yes. You are Americans with rights and one of those
major rights is the freedom to Vote, so please take control of your future instead of letting the little bit you have get taken away. Think about it,
 denial will get you nothing.

I cannot understand, especially in these current economic times, how someone would not want to better themselves. I would have thought the last insulting raise the dealers received would have been enough to bring the union in. The dealers at the Mandalay Bay do not have any security, much less blankets and those who choose not to send in a card are just hiding their heads in the sand hoping everything will be alright. The economy worsens everyday, and it is just a matter of time before layoffs and reduction of benefits are going to happen. The corporations will do whatever it takes to protect themselves in bad times, I can't understand why the dealers won't!

I have NO confidence in the NLRB what a joke!!!
I do not work at the Rio but on voting day I will be standing in front of the men's room and will be happy to tackle any freaking idiot who tries to enter with a ballot box!!!

Thank you for your feedback, but I think most of our readers may require an explanation of what you are referring. On June 13th, a union vote was held on behalf of the security guards here at Mandalay Bay. The vote results came out to 123 to 110 against the security guards joining the SPFPA union (police and firefighters association). Okay so they lost, except that there's more to the story. It seems that throughout this voting duration, the ballot box split open on one side while ballots were seen sticking out of this box for the last 5 hours of this election. But wait there's more! Also witnessed at this time was an NLRB agent by the name of Michael J Johnson suspend the voting for 5 minutes while he seized the unsealed ballot box and blank ballots and retreated to the men's room. What happened to the ballot box during those 5 minutes we'll probably never know, but it seems to everyone (us included) that a re-vote is most definitely warranted. There are too many unanswered questions pertaining to the conduct of this "fair" election. We hope the NLRB will conduct an immediate re-vote with safeguards in place to eliminate any suggestion of impropriety.

I am a Dealer at the Mandalay Bay for many years, and I am so disappointed in the manner that the Security Guards vote was handled. It makes you wonder what that NLRB agent Michael J. Johnson was thinking, or was he?  You would think there would be more than ONE agent present to monitor this ballot election as important as it is. It only makes you speculate about the integrity of the National Labor Relations Board(NLRB). That is what this agent has instilled in the minds of MANY. Is it possible that MGM/Mirage could have twisted this agent's arm or persuaded him into what would seem to be a very sloppy mistake, "or worse"?

In a word, YEAH!!! Obviously something stinks here! NLRB agents don't normally make such ludicrous and ill-considered mistakes. They have stringent procedures they must adhere to, and going off to the men's room with an "unsecured" ballot box is anything but procedure If all this is true, clearly a re-vote must take place if for no other reason than to reinstate the "integrity" of the NLRB. Up until now their reputation and stature have never been questioned. Unfortunately, this costly blunder appears to have changed all that. Let's hope the NLRB will make the proper and ethical decision to authorize an immediate re-vote for our Mandalay Bay Security Guards.

I work at one of the many MGM/Mirage properties and I am counting on the MIRAGE and MANDALAY dealers to get the ball rolling for my casino.

Thank you so much for your opinion on the Front Page comments and your right, too many dealers are surrendering to the "Wait and See" approach.  Whether it's because they feel threaten or intimidated or perhaps they are waiting for that "PROMISED"  position at City Center, it's a shame they can't see the reality of it all.  When the time comes these "illegal" promises will have been forgotten!!  And many will realize that this "Wait and See" Plan was devised by upper management and their "Union Busters" to obstruct our Union Drive. By now we're sure you've all heard the great news about the TWU's petition to the NLRB for a union vote on behalf of the Rio Dealers.
The vote is expected to be held during the second week of July and is further presumed to be a landslide victory for the dealers. On behalf
of Mandalay Bay Dealers, we would like to congratulate the Rio Dealers for their tenacity and courageousness in their unrelenting struggle to
secure their futures.  It truly takes a certain amount of moxie to stand up and apprise upper management that benefits, pay scale, and working conditions are no longer tolerable in their present formations.  We have confidence that MB Dealers also possess these traits of courage and are ready to stand up for themselves, rather than accept what corporate notifies us what we deserve. It will of course take diligence and dedication on our part for this to transpire.  In house organizers (IHOs) must volunteer their time to inform and educate others, as well as to circulate
authorization cards and forms.  Yes, it's work but in the long run don't you think it's a small price to pay for the advantage of a secured  future? Remember Guys, it's a group effort. Thank You!

I know on swing a lot of dealers are taking the Wait & See method about our union drive because they want to see how it will improve
conditions at the other properties first. I think that is the worst thing we could do because the longer we wait, the more management can
take away from us in the meantime. My medical deductible has gone up twice since MGM-Mirage took over. My yearly raise went from 3% down to
under 1%. I think we have waited and seen enough, I don't know if we can afford any more cuts.

Thank you for saying it the way it is. One thing you did forget to mention though is probably the most important; TOKE SECURITY!!! The
"WAIT and SEE" approach is most threatening to our tokes. If the Nevada Supreme Court returns a ruling in favor of Wynn Resorts
(against the Wynn Dealers), then "Toke Re-distribution" becomes legal in every casino in this state. Only casinos that have unionized by
that time are exempt from this ruling. So far only Caesars Dealers are safe. I know, I know Terry Lanni promised in his January 16th letter
to all of us that, and I quote "Our company will not implement any type of tip-sharing program at any of our resorts... You have my
word!" Unfortunately Mr. Lanni's "word" was based on the legality or illegality of "Toke Re-distribution". Once it becomes legal, his
"word" will evolve into a revised plan based on "economic re-structuring due to our country's recession", or some such drivel. So
Toke Security has to be our primary concern when it comes to deciding whether or not we need to vote for a union. If your tokes are not
important to you, then do nothing. If however, you feel it necessary to protect your tokes and your future, then it is crucial that you
expedite this process by sending in your authorization forms yesterday. The "WAIT and SEE" approach is exactly what upper
management is hoping for. After all, it could save the company tens of  millions of dollars.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Rio Dealers have recently launched their own website at www.twuriodealers.org. So check it out
next chance you get, and you might want to submit a congratulatory feedback. Also the dealers bulletin board has been up for awhile; it
can be accessed at
www.lvdealers.com. You might get a better idea of what other dealers up and down the strip are going through and what
ideas they have come up with. You can also keep abreast of the negotiations going on at Wynn and Caesars, and all the latest news.

To answer the question that Feedback #95 has asked, " Why haven't we voted yet"? The answer is quite simple. Stupidity and Ignorance. These
swing shift dealers are morons if they think our benefits aren't going to tank if we don't vote the union in now. What's it going to take to
get through to you clowns? How about a 50-50 PPO health plan? Maybe a cap on all of our annual cost of living raises? No wait, how about
when management decides to cut a cool 20% of our tokes right off the top to help subsidize the new Terry Lanni bonus program. Do you think
by then you'll finally get it? Well, do ya, punk?

Thanks for the unique although clear-sighted scenarios you have mentioned. I would however like to differentiate between your choices
of nouns; "Stupidity" and "Ignorance". A person who is stupid chooses to ignore facts presented to him or her. An ignorant individual is one
who suffers from a lack of knowledge and therefore is unable to choose. I fear that the majority of Mandalay Bay dealers that have not
sent in their authorization forms as of yet, are suffering from ignorance. With proper knowledge, I'm sure most of our dealers would
at the very least send in their cards so that on voting day we would all have a choice in whether or not we wish to unionize. You see it's
all about giving ourselves CHOICES. On the other hand, the few individuals among us would rather disregard the facts, and at
all costs, keep others from learning and remain ignorant. I suppose it's lonely being uncompromising. So to our friends on swing shift, try to spread the word of this website to others so they to can make an informed and intelligent  decision concerning their future. LET'S STAMP OUT IGNORANCE AT MANDALAY BAY AND EDUCATE EACH OTHER!!!

I'm writing in for the first time although I sent in my authorization card a few months ago. I'm kind of surprised that after all this time,
we haven't voted yet. What seems to be the hold up?

Thanks for writing in, as it is astonishing that we don't yet have enough cards in to have the TWU formally request a vote from the NLRB.
To us it's clearly a no brainer. The authorization card forms are easy to obtain; simply print one out from this site, fill it out, and mail
it in. Since the cards are confidential and your vote is undisclosed, no one in management, no other dealers, NO ONE will know how you
voted. So for all you fence sitters out there, get busy before it's too late. You have absolutely nothing to lose, and your future to gain!!!!!

So have you all checked out "Table Talk" yet? It's the Mandalay Bay dealers & floor supervisor's website launched by the company and
managed by our leader Rick Fields. Although it does contain some important links: your weekly schedule, policies and procedures, a
shortcut to the information station,... it also displays everybody's birthday whether we want it to or not. Oh well, they do call all the
shots!
It also contains a "department info" page which is nothing more than copies of two letters sent to all of us from "our god himself" Terry
Lanni. Why do we need copies of letters we decided to discard months ago? We don't need a reminder of our raise situation. Some of us got a
22% raise and some of us got royally screwed; Okay we get it, don't keep reminding us!!!
On a more positive note there is a feedback page where we are allowed  to ask Rick Fields anything we wish anonymously and await his unbiased
and principled response. Of course only Rick will decide which feedbacks will get posted and answered. Oh well, let's give it a shot
anyway. Ask Rick when we veteran dealers are going to get a decent raise. Ask when are medical benefits are going to improve. Ask Rick
what ever happened to our round table discussion meetings. Don't they care about OUR opinions anymore? Hey since Rick is so down on the TWU
representing us dealers, why don't we ask him which union would be more suitable for us?
But at least they seem to be pretending that they're listening. So let's pretend that we believe they care and submit feedbacks
pertaining to our working conditions and benefits. You never know, we might just receive an honest answer.

Kudos to the webmaster! The site is very informative. I'm hoping that everyone will jump on the bandwagon and sign the authorization cards soon so we will have the opportunity to vote for union representation.
Management is under pressure to preserve and increase shareholder value. As an unrepresented group of employees, we are one of the first places that they look to when they need to save more money. Our benefits aren't gradually getting better are they? Meanwhile, talk to employees that are represented by unions; ask about what their unions have done for their benefits and pay. We need to organize. By organizing we can stop the erosion of our benefits and eventually negotiate better pay and benefits.

Kudos to YOU for your accomplished and informative feedback. And yes our benefits are going to continue to deteriorate as long as the majority of us sit back and play the "wait and see" game. Only union members can have a say in their future benefits, while the rest of us must ACCEPT what bones management decides to toss us. And as for our tokes, given time they may be  part of the past unless we soon vote yes to unionization and vote to protect them from re-distribution. So let's get our heads out of the sand and send in those authorization cards before any more damage can be done to our future.

Hi, Wynn Dealer here.  My question is "What is taking so long for Mandalay dealers to vote?"    .....  It is ultimately yes or no.   You all know what you want, lets see.

Always great hearing from our friends at the Wynn. Good question. It seems were getting some resistance from many of our swing shift dealers. It appears that management is using it's fear and intimidation ploys to keep our swing dealers shaking in their boots. Don't get me wrong, we're still making progress, just not as quickly as we had hoped. Little by little we're getting there. SO SWING SHIFT: WAKE UP AND SEND IN AN AUTHORIZATION FORM!!! Don't let yourselves be bullied any longer; it's time to make a stand concerning your future!!!

I work at the Mandalay Bay as a dealer and I just can't understand why the dealers could even be reluctant to having better benefits and job
security.  And speaking about Security they (security guards) also are taking steps to protect what is theirs, by joining the firefighter's and policeman's association. Now what does that tell you? They don't even have toke issues or half of the issues we have but they are smart enough to see their bleak future if they don't do anything about it now.  So dealers what is it that you need to realize that our present and future is at jeopardy. Sign the card now and when we do go to a vote you will have the option to say Yes or No. I've signed mine.

I'm confident that the majority of dealers are slowly coming around to the idea of uniting and bargaining for better pay and benefits. It's just taking a bit longer than we originally anticipated. But while we were busy with our union efforts, the security department got wise and decided to join their own union. I hope Mandalay dealers will see this as the kick start they need to get those A-cards in, like you. Thanks again for writing in.

All I want to say is that we too are trying to unionize and you  guys  need to jump on the U-Train. Steve Wynn is trying his hardest with  all  his money and big lawyers and god only knows who else is in his  pocket to get this bill approved. Shame on him a (so called) man of his  caliber doing something so horrendous by paying his other employees which is really his responsibility, with someone else's tips. So what's next  are we to pay for those employee's benefits too? Hey why not he  is apparently getting away with this. Once the bill passes it will be  to late for those that are not under the protection of the TWU union.  So Dealers wake up! Smell the Roses because Wynn is smelling the  money. Send in your Cards filled out and signed today! You've got nothing to lose except your own money!

The MGM properties are always looking for ways to save money too, not just Steve Wynn. Dealers at Mandalay Bay are not safe from having tips shared just because Terry Lanni wrote a letter, we need to be under the protection of a union contract!!!

Hi I am a swing shift dealer at the Mandalay Bay. I have been there from Day one. I have been in this business for over 30 years and I have seen many, many changes and experienced many things. But this one takes the cake. I have been trying to get this website address for a long time and have not been able to,  I really did not know who to ask or trust. And now come to find out, that there are dealers on Swing that are trying to make it impossible for us to reach you guys. There is several dealers that are throwing away any cards or papers you leave out for us so let me warn you, this is a heads up. There are so many dealers on Swing that are not even aware that we have our own site.  I don't understand why these few selfish dealers are doing this. We are in a country where we have the privilege to be able to make up our own minds. This act that they are committing is a communistic act. I wonder if management is behind what these wrong dealers that are doing this. To those dealers that are doing this Leave us alone we can decide for ourselves if we want a union or not this is AMERICA!, And to you guys please do not give up on putting out the cards there are dealers that are very much interested in unionizing. So Thank You for this website and I will sign a card and send it in.

Thanks for the info, but we're aware of these few cowardly dealers. Why are they killing themselves trying to obstruct this union drive? Who knows. Ignorance would be my first guess. They may feel that not knowing the facts and living in denial makes them feel more comfortable about their future. I know it sounds ridiculous but there are those who don't want to be informed and feel that if others are enlightened, that it might somehow "kill their buzz".

In any event, thank you for taking the time to write in and please let others know about this site. The more people logging on, the more Confidential Cards the TWU has been receiving.

What is it with all these dealers wanting to wait and see what happens with the Wynn and Caesars dealers? Don't they get it? Now is the only
time we have to secure our tokes from being re-distributed. The Nevada Supreme Court has just heard the Wynn dealers case and will soon rule. With half of these justices in Steve Wynn's pocket, it doesn't take a genius to figure out which way they'll rule. So guys get with it and
send in those cards because if you sit back and wait and see, it's going to be too late to secure our tokes.

Well said. "Status Quo" can only be locked in once the DEALERS UNION is voted in and certified. "Waiting and Seeing" is exactly what  Terry Lanni and his boys are hoping for. For Terry knows that when his friend Steve wins his case, all bets are off! And that all is needed is a ten day notice to all MGM-Mirage dealers that tip confiscation will be implemented at that time. And guess what folks, it will all be legal. That's all they've been waiting for; the issue of legality. And the money they could save or generate for the company is upwards of $50,000,000. per year! WOW! Of course, it will cost each dealer at Mandalay Bay $12,000. to $15,000. a year. Oh well, someone has to bite the bullet, right?
So "Waiting and Seeing" would be quite profitable for MGM-Mirage but costly for us dealers. The decision is ours; the TWU authorization cards are waiting to be printed out sent in. WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?

I haven't had anybody knock on my door to sign the teacher petition to get the casinos to contribute to our children's education. How do I get my name on the petition?

Well just hang in there, as it takes time to get to everyone. Also I understand that some petitioners are going to be stationed at certain shopping centers during peak times.

So am I to understand that Mr. Lanni has shot himself in the foot once again for forcing his opinions upon us. Oh well, keep up the good work Terry. We love it when you tell us how to think, and what and what not to sign. We're too stupid to think for ourselves, so thanks again!

I have a real issue here that I wonder if we do become a union as dealers, can the TWU help us with this? I am a smoker and disabled an I feel like I am a criminal because of it.  When we were hired this was not an issue nor a condition, and now they indirectly want us all to quit. I recognize the law and it states that there should be no smoking where there is food service.  The Mandalay Bay has an abundance of space which I am sure has a place where we would be sheltered from the elements of nature and not be shunned upon.  I have to hide when I am on a break because the places that were assigned are so far away that with the given time on our breaks to get to and fro, it is almost impossible to sit eat ,go to the bathroom, wash your hands and enjoy your one and only vise for some of us. These places must have been chosen by a non-smoker with no disability, they have made it almost impossible for us as (dealers) to walk to these few chosen area in the very limited amount of time given to us.  So being disabled it is even worse!  One of the places they chose is on the sixth floor, sure there are benches there to sit ,but there is no covering from the element of nature the benches get so hot (and mind you it is not full summer yet) that I burned my leg, it was red and blistered.  I did not realize how hot it really was till I got home and there are bees everywhere. But do you think I am going to tell Management? Heck no, Why? 1st they really don't care and 2nd they'll frown on me because I smoke, and then probably send me for a drug test!  Which is no problem for me other than being humiliated again. All the other places assigned are even further away. MGM/Mirage has taken this law to the letter, but not because they are so righteous, but because one individual whom has the all the power hates smokers, He has made this clear to us. We tried to talk to him as to consider at least the handicap employees and his response was "it's not happening" And that came from Mr. B.H. himself.  So if he does not consider the Handicap forget about the rest of us. Can the TWU help in making this a part of our contract?  If so Then I surely want to unionize because this is only one of many issues that need attention!

Thank You, for sharing this issue with us as every issue is as important as the other. The "TWU Local721 Dealers Union" will try to provide solutions to each and every one of our issues at hand.  Right now there is one person making all these rules, and not necessarily taking into consideration just how important these issues are to each and every one of us. It seems to be "his way or the highway" there is only take and no give. Instead  of making us feel wanted there to provide our best as we all do as front line workers that we are, all they insinuate is "you are so lucky to have this job" Well it certainly doesn't feel like that anymore does it? As far as being disabled they really wish we weren't there, it would cost them a lot less as far as insurance is concerned, so they try their best to alienate us and discourage us for not conforming to there rules which change daily and they hope we will just quit. So dealer please try to hang in there hopefully we will get this vote in and persevere. The only way to do this is to Fill out Print and Sign your Confidential TWU Card (form) and mail it in Now! This way we can vote the Union In!!!!!

I am a fulltime dealer and I want to vent this issue with you. Several dealers have had grievances with management, and management have told that dealer that Human Resources is closed when they ask for someone from that department to be present at that time, because we have no one else to help us listen to our side. Then I find out that their is someone there 24 hrs a day.  Maybe it was that time of day close to going home,  and they did not want to spend any more time on this. So we are inconveniencing them and we are literally forced to sign a warning slip or verbal, which ever it may be. And when I asked to see what they wrote on their report, I was denied, that it was not an option. How fair is that?  I believe that if we had a union steward present we may have a better chance to a fair hearing.  Bottom line, Human Resources is paid by MGM/Mirage. So dealers what are you waiting for? Sign those cards now and mail them in!

Thank you for this valuable information. We have never been aware of the fact that there is a representative available to us after office hours. That gives Management the advantage of starting a Negative paper trail on a dealer if they choose to. I think that maybe they are afraid that such representative just might sway our way (Fat Chance) and that may be one of the reasons that we were not told that a human resource rep is available 24 hrs. That is one of the advantages we would have with a union, Their would a Shop Steward that would listen to our side and in our defense represent us to make sure everything is done fairly. So Dealers Which would you prefer, a person from Human Resources that is on MGM/Mirage payroll or a Shop Steward that is a union representative that is working solely for the dealer's best interest?

Hi, I am a full time dealer on dayshift at the Mandalay Bay, and I need to say this even though I know it has been one of the subjects address earlier. I can remember when our management in (at least more than one of our pre-shift meetings) told us that for those who choose not to fill out the "online Wellness Assessment Survey"  they would raise their premiums as well as co-pay and deductibles. Then towards the end of the surveys time they announce that they were not going to raise our premiums, co-pay or deductible (again in another pre-shift meeting) Well guess what, it went up anyway.  So what kind of word (trust worthy) does MGM/Mirage have, they change things at their own whim. A lot of the dealers may be in great shape at this time so they don't realize that time passes and we all get older and that is when they are going to wish they had listen to the urgency to having a union to protect us. How can these dealers not see this? MGM/Mirage can also change their minds about our toke sharing issue, all they are waiting for is for the bill to pass. The dealers need to send in their cards so we can bring the union to a vote.

Yes, I appreciate you bringing this subject up and Thank You!. Management did exactly that. And  we trusted in their word and they outright lied to us. And that is exactly what they will do if Steve Wynn gets his bill through.  They will change their minds and follow suit and do as Steve has done to his dealers. And any dealer that does not see that is asleep or living in LaLa land.  They remind me of the Ostrich that hides his head in the ground and thinks it has all gone away.  WAKE UP DEALERS, STOP WAITING TILL IT'S TO LATE!!!!

I am a Mandalay Bay Dealer and have been there for 8 years. I have a question, I was told by a floor supervisor that once we become union, if I wanted to get an extra day off I can't just go to the pencil as we have been. I would have to go to the Shop Steward and get his or her "OK" first, is that true? They said extra days we can forget about it! I worry, what if I have an urgent appt or something of such?

Thanks for taking the time to write in. In a word, NO!  Requesting an extra day off, has nothing to do with our shop stewards; they simply won't be getting involved unless of course their is some kind of favoritism going on. Example: Let's say you have requested a certain day off for what you believe is a valid reason. You are refused, but Joe Blow then asks for that same day off and gets it. This situation would at least merit an investigation and a steward should be called in.
But as far as requesting time off, nothing will change. Unfortunately some of our floor supervisors have been told by their higher ups to start spreading these lies to scare off union support. We're not surprised and neither should you be, as this is a good example of how most Union Busters operate.  Union Busters prefer to stay behind the scenes, while educating their minions (in this case floor supervisors) on how to casually propagate lies and intimidation for the purpose of instilling fear among the employees (in this case dealers). Please don't fall for these sorry attempts to stonewall our union drive. We're ALL smarter than that.  Meanwhile, keep those cards coming in, so we can all join the TWU "Las Vegas Dealers Local 721, and negotiate a fair and equitable contract for our dealers.

Shush, Dealer's do not be afraid send in the card. Without it we can never have a vote like Caesars and the Wynn did. We deserve the right to vote.   If we should win a Union Vote we can negotiate till the cows come home and corporate can do nothing to us or our benefits.  If we are organizing we would be in a much better position then we are now, we will not know till we try. The situation can only get better we have nothing to lose so send in your flipping cards (forms if printed from your computer) and if you know of a dealer who does not know anything about being union take a minute to direct them to this site, the www.twulocal721.org site which is the TWU site, The www.twumiragedealers.org site, The www.twuparisdealers.org site, The Golden Nugget www.gndealers.org  site. their is valuable information.  All we need to do is inform them where to go to get it.

This message says a lot.  If you sit back and do nothing you will receive nothing or maybe get handed more financial woes in the way of less benefits, less job security. We are in a recession and the front line employees of corporations are the ones who will be hit the hardest with layoffs and loss of benefits.  during tough times and always, you need the protection of a contract with your employer, this will insure things are handled fairly.  In reply to feedback #78... first of all, it is illegal for the management to make such threats... second of all, the cards are confidential, not because  I say, but because that is the law... you might want to inform this to your Asian friends. There is no way the bosses will know if they send in a card or not send in a card... (although they wish they could know) that is fact! please try to relay to your Asian friends this message.. I don't know how it is in foreign countries, but this is AMERICA and this is how it works. It's quite simple! Good Luck!

Thank you for your response. I for one am completely amazed at the lengths that middle and lower management will stoop to try and thwart this union drive. Since they can't take us on in say, debating the merits of joining the Dealers Union, they feel their only recourse is to spread fear through lies and empty threats. Pretty pathetic really, especially when you consider that the  "TWU Las Vegas Dealers Local 721" not only will benefit the dealers, but will eventually help lower management as well. So to our American dealers, our Latino American dealers, and our Asian American dealers; ALL AMERICANS HAVE FREEDOM OF CHOICE!  Always feel free to exercise yours, and never be intimidated by others. If you feel uncomfortable because of threats made by management, please fill out an "INCIDENT REPORT" and forward it to the TWU. These people are breaking the law, and it will not be tolerated. I keep hearing that the dealers at the Mandalay Bay want to unite within the TWU organization. What I and I feel a lot of other dealers don't understand is, why it has not come to a vote yet? Why do we have to fill out those authorization cards, what do they have to do with a vote for a union? If we just hold a vote won't that let the National Labor Relations Board know we want to unite, Won't that be enough? Can there be a freak accident ,where management could get a hold of those cards and get all our names? Because that is what the dealers are afraid of. So can we be assured that this would never happen?

Thank you for your questions, as this is essentially why we offer this feedback forum. Under federal law, the NLRB will only allow a union vote to take place once the local chapter (in this case, the TWU Local 721) requests it, with a minimum of 51% interest from the employees in that group. This interest would be in the form of authorization cards. Keep in mind; sending in an A-card only informs the TWU of your preference to HAVE a vote, not on how you WISH to vote. Although only 51% interest is required by the NLRB, the TWU won't request a union vote unless they receive at least 70% interest. They feel 70% is a safer margin for success.

As for the confidentiality of the authorization cards; rest assured that only the TWU has access to them once they're sent in. Management can never get a hold of these cards, nor can they legally ask any dealer if they have signed one. If they ever do, kindly remind them that they are breaking the law by asking, or if you don't want to raise any red flags, pretend you don't know what they're talking about. Then send in an INCIDENT REPORT.
As for their being a freak accident, where management could get a hold of these Authorization cards...WOW! I guess the building that houses the TWU offices could blow up via a terrorist attack, and the wall safe containing these authorization cards, hurls through the air south by southwest across town until it crashes through the second floor of Mandalay Bay and lands on Mr. Hornbuckle's desk and breaks open. GOSH, I hope that doesn't happen! But short of that, I think we're pretty safe.

I am a dealer at the Mandalay Bay and have been dealing for 27 years. Why can't we leave everything as it is at Mandalay Bay. I  don't   know   much about this ,but it seems to be much easier to just leave it alone. I'm afraid of getting laid off. I need my job so this just has me confused.   What should I do, I need my benefits and I do not want my tokes or any part of them to be taken from me.   Why can't it be the way it use to be, easy? Will they know if I send in a Card?

Thanks for writing in. Last question first: No, management will never know if you sent in a card unless YOU inform them. Otherwise, it's completely confidential.
You obviously have a lot of concerns about your future as a dealer. And you should. Thanks to Steve Wynn and corporate bean counters, this industry is rapidly changing, and not for the benefit of it's non-union workers. And we dealers are right in the thick of it.

You ask why we can't just leave everything as it is at Mandalay Bay...that it would be easier to do nothing. Well yes, initially it would be easier to do nothing and HOPE that our benefits don't continue to decrease as our premiums increase. We can do nothing and just HOPE that "Tip Confiscation" is just a horrible horrible dream...that even when the Wynn dealers lose their appeal in the Nevada Supreme Court, that every major resort on the strip won't jump to implement this new LEGAL policy as it pertains to sharing our tips with others. So yes it would be easier to sit back and watch our $80,000.00 a year job, turn into a $65,000.00 a year job.You also mentioned that you're afraid of being laid off or fired. Again, you should be afraid, very afraid. We are all "At Will" employees. This essentially means that we are at their will. As we have seen in the past, we can be terminated for any reason at any time. Paper trails are an easy way to start the process. Only union employees have the benefit of "Due Process" through representation.
Hoping these problems will just disappear isn't realistic. The only way of correcting what upper management has caused, is by taking on a proactive approach. Unionization is our only defense. Please send in your card today.

I am an Asian dealer and I have been at Mandalay Bay since we opened. I sent in my card over 2 months ago, but I am surprised to find that many other Asian dealers don't even know about this union. Some others do, but are afraid to sign cards because if they do, they think if the bosses find out, they could get fired. One boss even said that if they send in a card, they would get deported. I know they can't really do this, but I don't know how to explain it to others.

These feedbacks are the most convenient way to voice our concerns pertaining to our union drive. I especially want to thank you for taking the courage and time to write in. I only wish MORE dealers would do the same. The key here is education. As to educating others about the "Las Vegas Dealers Local 721", turning them onto this website is probably the easiest way to get the word out.  If however, they don't have access to the internet, then verbally explaining the benefits of voting to unionize is your only choice.  Benefits such as: reasonable pay scale raises, cost effective or free health insurance, PTO/flex time incentives, protection from toke sharing, shop steward representation, and job security should all be mentioned. It is also important to note that all authorization cards that are sent in, are and will continue to be completely confidential. Management has NO WAY of knowing which dealers have sent in a card. And they know it is illegal to ask any dealer if they sent in a card or how they plan to vote.
Unfortunately, there are certain management members (mostly floorsupervisors), that have convinced themselves that halting our union efforts is somehow to their advantage. Nothing of course, could be further from the truth. There have been reports that certain Asian and Latino dealers have been singled out with threats of lay-offs and/or deportation if they were to send in authorization cards and/or vote YES for the union. These empty threats are management's best ploy for instilling fear and intimidation onto whomever they feel are the least educated. Fortunately for all of us, they are wrong!
But it is up to all of us to spread the word of this website and to inform others of the benefits of unionizing. This is the only way to protect what we already have from diminishing, and build our benefits from there. So please continue to educate each other and THANK YOU again for your feedback!

I really like your website but I'm not sure I understand the meaning of the term "status quo"? Aren't we already in a state of "status quo"?

Yes and No. We are presently in a state of "Status Quo", but only until upper management decides to make a policy change. This will then change to a new state of "Status Quo". The Webster's Dictionary defines "Status Quo" as "The condition or state in which a person or thing is or has been". So in essence "locking in the Status Quo" is what we are out to achieve through a contract. Until then, upper management can and will at their whim, change any policy they feel will cut costs or promote revenue for themselves or MGM-Mirage's stock price. At any time, they can cut vacation time or health insurance benefits, as we have seen them do in the past. Although they may do this gradually in hopes that we dealers are too dumb to notice. The only way to put a stop to this is through "locking in the present Status Quo". The only way to "lock in the Status Quo" is by voting in the "Las Vegas Dealers Local 721" union. The only way of holding this vote is by the TWU receiving enough Authorization Cards from our Mandalay Bay dealers. So please send in your cards as fast as possible so we can put a freeze to our rapidly declining benefits while we negotiate.

I'm an extra-board dealer, and even though I'm very happy with the nice raise we all just got, I'm just not sure what else the union can do for us. Can you explain what other benefits the union can get us?

You can and will enjoy an infinite array of improved benefits at your disposal. Starting with having representation present before management questions you, based on any alleged infringements or complaints. This representation will be in the form of SHOP STEWARDS, and ALL dealers at Mandalay Bay will have access to their council. Being terminated/fired without cause will cease, as our "AT WILL STATUS" will soon be a thing of the past. Also Toke Protection and Toke Benefits (such as vacation, jury, sick, and hospital tokes) will also be under the control of ALL dealers, not just the full timers, because we ALL are affected and ALL contribute to our toke pool. And as for the recent raise we all received; we can do a lot better than that. For the skilled services that we dealers provide, $7.75 per hour doesn't even come close to what we truly deserve. $12.00 to $15.00 per hour is much closer to what a dealer at MB should start out at. And as for the 9 to 25 year veterans, don't even get me started!
But in answer to your question, the "LAS VEGAS DEALERS LOCAL 721" union will benefit ALL Mandalay Bay dealers, because we dealers ARE the union. That means WE dealers (extra-board included) vote for ALL aspects of what goes in our contract. So if you want a voice in your future here at MB; GET YOUR CONFIDENTIAL AUTHORIZATION CARDS IN TODAY!!! Only then can we have some of the same benefits as our other fellow workers (that have unionized) are enjoying!

I would like to be part of the union of the Dealers at Mandalay Bay. But I fear that the supervisors at Mandalay Bay may find out who the dealers are that are participating and therefore would dismiss me. Can they do that? I want to protect my tokes and my benefits and most importantly my Future. I have worked many years with this company and worked hard, and I have been content with my job. But now I feel that it is wrong the way they are showing their appreciation to me!  I believe that a Union would be the best move we can make, to protect our future. I will send my card in today!

Thank you for your confidence and your comment, for everything here is confidencial. I understand that you have worked loyally many years with this company. And you are right, the way we are treated is not fair to us. Now these companies have converted into Corporations and they don't care about us. They only look at their profits and loses.  Thank you for sending in your card because we need the dealers of MGM/Mirage to realize what's really going on and hopefully they also will Fill out, Sign and mail in their Confidential cards Today as well, so then we can have a vote which will be to our advantage and protection.

I would like to reply to the "reply" made to post #70:
Yes, when you are being herded into meetings and are being told by the union busters (through managements mouth) that the TWU is "not a good fit", by all means, speak up! DO ask them, "What Union would you recommend?" I can tell you right now, they will recommend NO UNION. But please, in front of EVERY dealer present, ASK THE QUESTION!
When in your meetings, do not sit back and be led around the room. Ask EVERY tough question you can. See what kind of answers you get. Most all will be replied with the standard response, "We will have to check on that and get back to you". Why? Because they either can not provide you with a sufficient answer, or they must "consult" with someone who they are paying far more than than the dealers for the "politically correct" answer.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take what they say as being "gospel" and NEVER let them off the hook or back down from your questions.
Remember, they want to "keep you in your place". You all know the "place", it's where dealers have been for decades.

Thank you for your points on how these mandatory dealer meetings SHOULD go.  We at Mandalay Bay have only had the pleasure of attending one of these little "get togethers", but without the benefit of any interaction. Although it was upbeat and positive, none of our real issues were addressed, simply because there was no question and answer period. It was made clear to us that if we had any questions they can be addressed after the meeting.  And we all Know that all they want to do is single out the dealers that they can perceive to be "trouble"  Perhaps at our next "captive audience meeting", management would welcome our questions and comments...NOT!   But even so, we can ask them anyway, over and over again at a meeting.   And just maybe the rest of the dealers that are asleep will awaken!!!

WHAT KIND OF BENEFITS ARE THE TWU OFFERING TO THE DEALER'S?  I DO NOT WANT TO BE UNDER INSURED.
I think the question you mean to ask is "What improved Medical Benefits can the TWU help our negotiating committee bargain for our dealers?" The answer is that it's up to our dealers to decide just what we can live with. Do we feel we're satisfied with the PPO 80-20 Plan that we're currently stuck with?  Or would we rather go back to the CPO Plan we enjoyed 2 years ago, when we paid a $10.00 co-pay for each doctor visit, but without the 20% charge for each office visit. We might also consider "FREE" medical insurance (similar to what the Culinary Union enjoys), where we dealers pay nothing, while MGM-Mirage pays the entire tab, minus what the insurance picks up (my personal favorite). So in answer to your question; it's not the TWU who will offer benefits to us dealers, it's us dealers who will bargain with upper management, in good faith, for our own benefits. But this can only happen if we get serious and vote to join the "Las Vegas Dealers Local 721" NOW! And this can only happen, if we get serious and send in those TWU authorization cards to request that vote. So if your ready for some decent benefits, not to mention a reasonable pay raise, and toke security, then you know what to do. But do it NOW, we're running out of time!

              03-20-08 From your Webmaster:

Turning the dice, spinning the ball, shuffling and pitching cards, calling hands, drop cutting, mucking and pushing cheques... So what truly is a dealer?  Once we get through the mechanics of learning to deal, we soon find that our profession requires a certain degree of finesse when dealing with our patrons.  Being on the front line, we welcome each new player with a smile and a warm greeting. As we change up their money, we may strike up a conversation by complimenting them, or asking them where they are from. With each winning hand we cheer them on, as with each loser we sympathize.  We'll joke with them while keeping the game pace at a reasonable speed. We dealers are essentially Mandalay Bay's entertainers.  On the flipside, we must also tolerate their abusive behavior when they lose or drink excessively.  Sometimes our floor supervisors will back us up; as other times they're nowhere to be found. But that's the price we pay for being on the front line.
Now for all this and quite a bit more, Mandalay Bay's upper management has decided that we dealers deserve less than $8.00 per hour. So forget about the hundreds of millions of dollars in revenues we essentially produce each year by way of our social and dealing skills; we deserve less than $8.00 per hour?!!  If you agree with that assessment, do nothing.  If however, you believe that we dealers should earn a wage similar to that of say, a bartender (and who wouldn't at over $16.00 per hour), then let your feelings be heard by printing out, signing and sending in a confidential TWU authorization card today. Then we can request a vote to be held for Mandalay Bay Dealers to join the " Las Vegas Dealers Local 721"!  It's the only way we can negotiate a fair wage, rather than accept what upper management says we deserve.

The MGM/Mirage has offered us nothing, the raise was a joke, the quiet room and new EDR if ever built will not help pay your bills.  We need a union contract, the TWU is real and they are here now, when we need them. Time is on the MGM/Mirage's  side. The longer we wait it gives them more time to dilute your benefits, and maybe even take your tokes. In response to #69, it was not fellow dealers who told you that TWU was not good for you.  It was the CM and floor who said that TWU is not good for you.  A Union Buster like Mark Garitty (who has recently been hired by MGM-Mirage) told them to say this.  Your supervisors should not give a crap about who you have selected to represent you.  BTW, "not a good fit?"  Who is a better fit?  Who has more experience with dealers in Las Vegas?  Get out your yellow pages and call around.  Every Union who knows anything will tell you to call TWU!

Your right; why would management care which Union would be best for us dealers? Perhaps we should ask them which Union they would recommend for our welfare, which only now they seem to be so concerned about. Not that it would matter now, but we are curious.

Okay, I like the idea of all dealers throughout this state joining a union, my only question is why the TWU? I don't really have anything against the TWU, but as our casino manager and certain floorpeople have pointed out, this particular union would not be a good fit for the dealers of this state, simply because they have little or no experience in the gaming industry. So my question is this; why not the teamsters, or the culinary, or some other more well known union?

Thank you for your questions as you bring up some good points. It is our understanding that initially the Wynn Dealers approached the Culinary for representation, but their response was that they knew little of dealer's issues and therefore weren't interested. Next the dealers asked the Teamsters if they would be interested in representing them, and their response was quite positive until at the last minute they backed out. When asked why the sudden change of heart, they responded "We know nothing of dealer's issues." (sounds amazingly familiar doesn't it?) Next the Wynn Dealers approached the UAW, due to the fact they were in the process (and still are), of uniting most of the dealers in Atlantic City. Unfortunately, they also declined due to fact that they didn't have the time or the confidence that Las Vegas Dealers were truly ready to organize.
Then the Wynn Dealers chose to speak with representatives from the Transport Workers Union (TWU). They accepted and the Wynn Dealers accepted them for several reasons:

1. The TWU has an unblemished record of being one of 4 national unions never to have been served a federal indictment. (The Culinary and Teamsters could never have said that).
2.The TWU has 70 years experience of uniting workers and negotiating contracts.
3. The TWU is the only union that could and will offer the Dealers of Nevada total autonomy in their organizing efforts. In other words, it's the dealers not the TWU, who will vote on their contracts, for their shop stewards, for their negotiating committee, and for or against ever going out on strike.
4. And most importantly, the TWU is the only union that has the balls not to be intimidated by the clout and power of Steve Wynn and all the other casino moguls backing him.
So for these reasons and several others, we at Mandalay Bay have decided that the TWU is the perfect fit for us. If you were to take the average years of experience each dealer has, and multiplied it times the total number of dealers that will eventually join the" Las Vegas Dealers Local 721", that would give you the total number of years experience that the TWU has in the gaming industry. Remember, it's the Dealers that are the union, and will run this local chapter of the TWU. So with the TWU's 70 years of negotiating experience, coupled with the dealers infinite years of gaming experience, the "Las Vegas Dealers Local 721" will be a force to be reckoned with!

I sent in my card.

Thank you for your feedback, support and card.  Yes, the Caesars Palace Dealers did secure their tokes and benefits, by voting in the union.    It placed them in a "Status Quo" where nothing else will change, until they bargain as a collective voice. The dealers will have the TWU representatives to act as their (spokesman) at the bargaining table.  But not before the dealers get together and agree on what exactly it is that they want and need.  I would love for our dealers at the Mandalay Bay to write down just 10 things that come to their minds that could possibly improve their job, benefits and work environment (and that's how you begin) Once the Union is Voted IN!  Dealers you have to wake up!  Because their is nothing worse than regrets and not being able do anything about it. It is Time to do something together. This people (management) does not recognize the years of dedication that we put on this job. It's sad for me to see a person that have been working for more than twenty years and makes less than $10.00 an hour. Where is the reward for been a loyal and a good employee. We need Justice Because this companies are making a lot of money thanks to us.

It is indeed sad that MGM/Mirage doesn't recognize true loyalty from it's veteran dealers. When management treats it's new hires with more respect than it's twenty year employees, something is most assuredly wrong. Why veteran dealers don't earn at least $5.00 an hour more than newer hires is beyond comprehension. Now is most definitely the time for dealers to unite!

Hey guys guess what! Here at Wynn we dealers are not aloud to collect the toke boxes at the end of the night, like you do!  Why? Because we don't need a nasty old toke committee to pay, like you do!  Uncle Steve took care of that for us, so we don't have to be (nor are we aloud ) in the room where tokes are being cut! What a relief!!  Having a toke committee is such a hassle, I feel for you guys!  We don't even have to worry about who gets cut into the toke pool, like you guys!  Our tokes are being cut by people who don't even get a share of them (supposedly), like you guys!  UNCLE STEVE REALLY TAKES CARE OF US!  Don't you guys want an UNCLE STEVE TOO!! Well just sit around and "wait and see" and soon you too will have what we have, an UNCLE to split the tokes which ever way he wants.  Won't that be fun!! Hey maybe you guys could include the Porters, the Security guards and the Pit clerks in your toke pool. We wouldn't want anybody to feel left out, would we?

It's always a treat hearing from our friends at the Wynn.  All sarcasm aside, what you have stated is essentially correct. Soon toke sharing will be implemented at most, if not all Hotel Casinos in this state. Waiting around is certainly not the answer. This only gives upper management the opportunity to seize our tokes the second the Nevada Supreme Court rules in favor of Steve Wynn, and make no mistake "The Devil" will prevail!  The only chance of preventing "toke sharing" at Mandalay Bay is though unionizing. And the only way to unionize is by voting, and the only way to hold a vote is by first sending in your TWU Authorization Cards. So dealers think about it; do you want an "UNCLE" to decide your fate, or do you at least want the choice to negotiate your own fate?

I really don't understand what is going on with the "WAIT & SEE "attitudes of my fellow graveyard dealers. They're basically saying that
if it comes to a vote, they'll vote "yes", but they're going to wait and see IF it comes to a vote. NEWS FLASH guys! It ain't going to come to a
vote unless you send in enough authorization cards. From what I understand, the TWU won't request a vote unless they receive cards from
at least 70% of the dealers. So whether you want to vote "YES" or "NO" to joining the Dealer's Union, you can't vote unless you send in your
cards!

Exactly right my friend; the TWU is waiting to receive at least 70% of the dealer's authorization cards before a vote can be requested and scheduled. So if you haven't already done so, please send in your confidential A-card right away. If you have, please get with your fellow dealers and have them do the same so that all our voices can be heard.  I am a dealer at Caesars, and after reading some of your posts I  realized that you guys are going through exactly what we went through
right before we filed with the TWU. A lot of strange stuff was happening;  management was getting desperate as they saw for the first time that they  couldn't manipulate us. We stayed united as dealers and watched out for  each other. We really weren't sure at some time, who was for the union and  who wasn't, but we stayed focused and kept spreading the message, and  answering questions.  We truly knew it was something that this town  needed, and it was something that we needed.  Management started having meetings, and that really got everyone talking. It wasn't really that   hard to convince the younger crowd, because they are more open minded,  it was harder to get through to the some of the older ones because they  had been brainwashed, but in the end just about everyone had seen the  light.  Keep dropping cards directing them to this site, maybe a few of  you could come out and make yourself known as IHO's and bring in flyers everyday and set them out for others to get educated.  Not one person  was let go because of union rallying at Caesars.  MGM-Mirage thinks they  can buy you off with a few coins, do they really think your that stupid? Stick together, stay focused and do it for the profession, for our careers and yours!

Thank You for your inspiring feedback. We also see management trying to manipulate some of our older and Asian dealers through intimidation and out right lies. Most see through it but there are some who have convinced themselves that upper management really cares about us, and that a union will only get in the way of our "relationship". For those dealers we say "WAKE UP AND SMELL THE BENEFITS"! Yes, that would be the same benefits that upper management has been robbing from us for the last few years. And don't forget about the tokes that they plan on sharing with whomever, once the Nevada Supreme Court rules in favor of Steve Wynn. So let's stop the corporate raping before it's too late by sending in those confidential TWU Authorization cards today!!!

Hi, I am a dealer that has been with Mandalay Bay (Circus Circus) for over 22 year. Yes, I was one of the dealers that received an 8 cents raise . I guess the longer you work for the company the less you are worth (go figure!).  I want to express what happened to me the other day concerning a certain floor person. As I was sitting on a BJ sit down game, this particular floorman approached me and out of nowhere he decided to vent his negative feelings towards me.  He said to me and I quote" I don't like when you are dealing standing and now I don't like you dealing when you are sitting either.  As a matter of fact I don't like you at all!" My response was to ask him what I was doing wrong so I could correct it.  And His response was again negative, but he would not elaborate as to what he disliked about my dealing. I have not been to management because I'm afraid they will take his side. Could bringing in the union help in situations like this?

Yes, this is what this forum is for; So we can address situations such as yours. What you experienced is un called for and totally unacceptable in today's work force.  What ever happened to professional courtesy between management and employees?  This form of abuse cannot be tolerated and should be annihilated. That is why we need to united, and with the support of shop stewards we can bring in fair representation to mediate between management and employees in such matters. So yes, bringing in the union can and will help in these situations.

03-05-08 From  a Mandalay Bay Day Shift Dealer

Hi , I want to express my gratitude as a dealer for this website.  Maybe  this site will make the dealers aware of what is really going on.  There
are so many dealers that have said to me "my computer is down " or "I did not know that we have a website " and there are those that say "yeah
I saw it but not all of it" and the classic " I haven't had time" Well  how can we get the dealers on swing shift to wake up! I have tried to
talk to a few that I feel can be trusted ,but that's not enough What  else can I do?  I have noticed that a lot of us have been changed around
from our usual games to games that we have not dealt in all of the 9 years we have been there.  Are they trying to see if we make mistakes so
to start a paper trail on us?  The dealers that they are doing this to  feel like they are being targeted.  What these dealers have to realize
is that this is one of the reasons why we need to unite, and that the dealers union is there to protect us from this type of scrutiny
Maybe a meeting could help with all the shifts involved? Is that possible?  Because it is only getting worse at the Mandalay Bay.

Thank you for your expressing your concerns on our site, that is what it is for. I have heard the same excuses myself from a few of the dealers as well. (and excuses is what they are) I think the dealers are awake, they are probably going to all come up at the same time and to our surprise it will be like a massive explosion. I don't doubt that management are indirectly targeting certain dealers that they feel may be part of the organization of the union, but WE can handle it! WE are strong! and WE will be UNITED and in NUMBERS we will prevail, so don't fret and try to hang in there. What ever you do, Do not give in to management, we will just have to dot our i's and cross our t's till we completely accomplish our goal and unionize. And yes a meeting is a very wise idea with ALL the SHIFTS.  WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON THAT THRU THIS SITE AND FLYERS!!!

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I like your website. I am an Asian dealer and my friends and I are worried that we might lose our jobs if we vote for a union. One of the floor men was telling us that the people who vote for a union will get laid off if it passes. I think a union will help us, but can they do that?

First of all, we want to thank our Asian friends for writing in their concerns.
In a word: NO. No dealer at any time will be fired, laid off, or disciplined in anyway for any action related to union support or activity. This includes filling out and sending in an authorization card (which is completely confidential), or voting for the Dealers Union (which is by secret ballot). As all floor supervisors are aware of, discussing the union with you or asking you how you might vote, is illegal. So it is best that you never discuss any aspects of our union drive with any member of the management team including floor supervisors. If they ever approach you on this matter, tell them that you feel uncomfortable speaking on this subject or that it is illegal for them to ask. If they persist, you may fill out an INCIDENT REPORT  accessed from our Home Page. If you would like to know more of what management can't do concerning union activities, please select ORGANIZING DRIVE from the Home Page and click on Warning Signs.

Hopefully, the Dealers in this town are not "short sighted" and realize that  the Union is about MORE than just "toke security".

Dealers think about this;  A Union bartender is paid about $3000 per month,  while Dealers are paid around $1000 per month. What can YOU do with an extra  $2000 per month?  Don't you think it's worth the effort?

Cocktail waitresses pay $0 (ZERO) for health insurance, while Dealers pay  anywhere from $150 to over $400 per month in premiums alone! What can YOU do  with the extra money?   Don't you think it's worth the effort?
Union workers ALL have wage increase GUARANTEED in their contracts, while  Dealers have NOTHING guaranteed.   Don't you think it's worth the effort?
All Unions have discipline outlined in their contracts that can not be sidestepped or changed on an individual basis. They have grievance
procedures which allow for independent review from outside arbitrators. What this does is do away with "at-will" status, which equates to "job security".
Don't you think it's worth the effort?

Not to disrespect the Culinary workers, but when they went on strike did the casino shut down?  Nope. Dealers are the ONLY work force who can hit them where it hurts, the Casino!  This is why they are fighting us so. When the Slot Techs at CP went Union a few years back, they did it unopposed by CP. Why were they able to organize unopposed?

The casinos will spend MILLIONS fighting the Dealers?  There is a clue there my friends, because the Dealers will be THEE Strongest work force in the industry!

Thank you for that extensive and oh so thorough feedback. So much of what you have stated has been mentioned before, but does bear  repeating. I would however like to re-emphasize your perspective, what a union strike of the dealers could potentially do to the casino industry. A city wide dealer's strike would cripple each and every casino resort to the tune of millions of dollars per day. One can only imagine the financial devastation each casino would suffer, without the revenues from all of their table games. Obviously we dealers are not hoping for this to happen, nor are we looking to strike anytime soon, or any time at all.   We're only looking for a reasonable wage compensation, benefits, and security. So as been said before, WAKE UP DEALERS, AND SEND IN THOSE TWU CARDS IN!!!

Unfortunately, as it stands right now, the Dealers at The Wynn will NOT get their tokes back through collective bargaining. Why? Because EVERY Dealer in this city is not a "721" member. If every Dealer WAS a member, they COULD get their tokes back.

If the courts rule FOR the Wynn Dealers and AGAINST Steve-O, does it end? No it does not! The Law is already clear on the matter, but Steve-O decided he is above the Law anyway. Just because the Law is on the books, that does not mean it will not be challenged by "innovators" such as Steve-O with FAT bank accounts. However, a Collective Bargaining Agreement is protected by FEDERAL LAW, not State Law (which is written by the casinos). The casinos may run this State, but they do NOT run the Country!

It is not our goal to hurt the industry. Of course we want our employers to be successful, or we will be without a job. However, we are tired of
watching them record profit after record profit, feed the executives lucrative bonuses, build more casinos (with their "profits) in Las Vegas.
Diluting the market while spreading thin the customer base, resulting in lower tokes for ALL of us, while they are continually taking from the
Dealers. If they were to pay Dealers more, provide better benefits to them, we would NOT capsize the industry. They would just have "lower" record
profits each year.

MGM/Mirage is claiming the "pay raise" they have given their Dealers a year in advance of when they will be mandated by Law to do so, will cost them
about $10 million dollars. How many Properties? 10-13? That is what? One million per property?  You think that will hurt them?  That is about the same bonus they will be paying ONE executive on each property!  What if they had tripled the "raise"? $30 million? 3 million per property? You think that would hurt them?  NO WAY!

I read in "comment" sections of the online newspaper articles that if dealers go Union the casinos will just pass the cost on to the customers.
What a laugh that is! The casinos are already raising costs to the customers! Las Vegas used to be "free" when it came to rooms and food and
such. Today a room will cost you up to $1000 per night. A show will cost about $150 each. Diner will cost about $75 per person. They have already
"passed it on" to the customers, but they FAILED to give it back to the employees! They are keeping it for themselves!

Dealers of Nevada...WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"All for One and One for All"

Yes it is unfortunate that all the dealers have not yet become "721" union members, because in  large numbers we become strength.  I hope that the dealers wake up and realize this , because this could have happened to any one of us, and this is not just the Wynn dealers problem, it is an issue that can and will affect all dealers if Steve Wynn gets it on. You are correct when you say we are not trying to hurt the casino industry.  That is not our purpose.  The more profit they make the less we receive; "Greed".  And let me say this the less they give the customers,  the less satisfied the customers are.  I hear about this from the customers everyday, It doesn't matter how many thousands they spend if it isn't spent @$25.00 to $50.00  at a time per play or per hand ,they don't qualify to be rated where as they should have received a sort of comp to show their play is appreciated. They receive nothing!.  (it all rolls down hill). One of our purposes is to protect our tokes yes, but not the only one. Our purpose is to be recognized as the front line employee that we are.  Our purpose is to be paid at a rate that is reasonable and FAIR!  Our purpose is to protect our health benefits (which as we've mentioned before) are slowly diminishing.  And above all Our purpose is to SECURE our FUTURE, our 401K retirement plan. And receive the respect that our job merits.  There is one more thing I have to say; Even though this has been a long time coming to all the casino management and big corporations that are experiencing the uniting of dealers (and hopefully it will be all) You all have Steve Wynn to thank for this.  It is unfortunate that this is what it took to wake the dealers up!!!!!!

Just thought anyone who is thinking that MGM/Mirage gave you a raise in  April
09, you would be making $7.75 anyway with the increase in minimum  wage.
They just gave it to you a year early to try and stop the union.

MGM/Mirage has offered a very minimal amount in its efforts to thwart a union. Unless you are a new hire, the raise amounts to a few cents an hour. In our present time; gas, food and utilities are skyrocketing, therefore this raise does not help much with the current cost of living. Dealers need a good schedule of pay raises to bring us to a decent hourly wage, dealers need a union contract!!!

No overtime pay period, No Quiet Area, We use the same facilities as you, Smoking, Eating or Otherwise. No Bonus, Nothing Special when it comes to the jobs we have chosen. I think 90 percent of us, if given the chance would go back to dealing in a heartbeat. These are tough times for us all, and I hope you can for a moment put yourselves in our shoes. We are not even aloud to really discuss the Union issues with the dealers and that is very frustrating to be put in the middle of Management and The Dealers. Good Luck!!!! You are not alone.
Thank you for giving me this venue so I could voice my opinion, because I can't at my job.

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback.  Unfortunately  we understand  your precarious position.  As I have stated before, floorsupervisors are often caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to issues of the dealers union.  I would hope most dealers would understand your predicament and not engage in any union discussions in your presence. We respect and enjoy our mutual working relationship with the majority of you, as we understand that you empathize with our plight. So the best we can anticipate is for  dealers monitoring this forum to understand that union discussions should be conducted out of ear shot of our floorsupervisors.

I am glad to see that i am not the only one who feels that this BIG raise is just another slap in the face.  If management thinks this will

Thank you for your support. I also am glad to hear that many dealers at the Mandalay Bay realize that this is just a ploy, another one of their tactics, to try and pacify the dealers so they might be swayed to not unite!  I believe the dealers of all these casinos that received a "raise" are a lot smarter than MGM/Mirage perceived and all they have done is insult our intelligence with this action.  This raise was to come any way, they just gave it to us sooner.

The Swing Shift Nightmare Continues......

I have been there from the beginning and everything that everybody else has mentioned is true; favoritism, nepotism,, abusive managers, its horrible there. It seems that the nightmare of those scenario's is amplified on swing shift, besides all the usual things you have to deal with; drunken obnoxious customers, loud music (Eye Candy is ridiculous).   We have this unbelievably corrupt pencil who asks you for money at the drop of a hat, its disguised as a joke but you can tell he is serious. He plays favorites worse than any pencil before him and a whole nightmare on swing shift is starting all over again.  Management once again fails to see the problem.

How much more suffering must we endure on swing shift before we are treated decently????

Mandalay Bay is a joke; when can we have a vote and get a union in here???

Hopefully very soon, as shop stewards will be investigating these and other grievances submitted by dealers once the union is voted in. So send in your TWU cards soon so we can request a voting date from the NLRB.

I noticed that MGM/Mirage Dealers finally received pay raises.  That is almost exactly what happened with the Harrah’s properties at Lake Tahoe. Pay raises are always welcomed, but the timing and sincerity of management’s
decisions are a bit questionable. We used to get an annual 3% raise until Spring ‘07.  Then, they froze our
wages.
Fast forward to November, when our web site went up.  Less than ONE WEEK
later, we also got our raises back, and they were retroactive to whatever date they were frozen.
That same week, in our captive audience Union-busting meetings, Management tried to make it sound like they had been fighting for us for the previous 6 months to get our pay raises back.  After all, they claimed to be our “representative” in the same way that Steve-O did in the meeting where he “apologized” for ripping off Dealers at his property.
Yeah, sure.  They wanted us to believe that they had been fighting for us all along, and that’s why we saw NO memos in the meantime regarding their efforts to “represent” us to get our pay raises back.  Plus, it was obvious that the raises were done in a hurry, because they told us that it may take a while to get all of the amounts correct.  If they had been fighting for us
all along, wouldn't they be more prepared with the correct amounts? It's not much of a raise  however, it will be enough all of our Union Dues. OH, they bother mentioning that.
Look at the timing of all this.  For how many years have you been without a raise, and for how long have they known about the Mirage/Mandalay Bay Websites? Thank our Union efforts and TWU for the raises. More importantly don't be fool by this cookie.  They still have total control!
Yes at Mandalay Bay, management has a history of handing out raises just as the union drive is getting started. It happened back in 2000, and it just happened  last week.  Only difference is this time it's not going to work. We were a little naive back then, but we've learned from our mistakes, and theirs. We've learned that communication and education is the key to standing strong and staying united.

Hello My Fellow Dealers, Yesterday after careful consideration I posted a Rant at Fox 5's website regarding the week attempt by our employer to give us a raise. We must not allow this feeble attempt to placate our desire to be treated fairly, and paid what we are worth. The only way I see us getting the word heard is thru the media. So please go to Fox 5 news and post a rant as I did. I don't have the link at this time but it is easy to find.

Thank you for inspiring me to do the same. By the way, the web address is:www.fox5vegas.com. Then click on "RANT" on the left bar. So MGM/Mirage gave a huge pay raise for it's dealers. Let's see, 6.33 to 7.75 = $11.36 per day. That's $113.60 a pay period. $227.20 a month. WOW!!!!! They made you guys rich now. I hope we are worth a little more than this. I hope that this doesn't buy off our union effort.   Sign a card and vote yes. Do not let them buy us off with a mere pittance.

You said it, the pay raise is okay (for most of us), but it doesn't equate to better health benefits and toke security which is really what this union drive is really all about. So let's send in those TWU authorization cards fast so we can negotiate rather than accept.

Unbelievably Poor Working Conditions

Aside from what others have mentioned nepotism, abusive managers,  abusive guests. I think these comment cards are a joke and just another way for management to get something over on you. I was in a situation where my table was out of control the players were practically swinging off the chandeliers.  The floor would not help get the table under control even after I asked her for help. I said something to the guests that was still respectful to get them to mellow out, they took it the wrong way, and I got a customer compliant. Once that goes in, there is no defending yourself. You are automatically guilty, they don't take into account the situation. They just write you up and send you on your way. Something about that doesn't seem fair, I have worked there since the place opened and never got a compliant in 9
years. Something is wrong with their system!!! Also there are dealers taking the cards home filling them out themselves as a so called guest and giving themselves good reviews then sending them in.
The floor people don't help when there is a problem on the table your just there hoping nothing goes wrong because nobody has your back.
Now that I have typed this, I'm filling out that card in favor of the union. Great site you guys, keep up the good work.

Thanks for your feedback as we hear of situations like this frequently. One of the benefits of being part of a union is having a SHOP STEWARD on the premises to listen to your side of any altercation (be it with a customer, fellow dealer, or management), and possibly speak on your behalf to give a more balanced representation of the facts. Shop Stewards can often open up dialog between dealers and supervisors to better understand each others situation and usually avoid formal write ups, which may lead to bad blood between the two.

Well Mandalay management is trying everything it knows to persuade the dealers from getting involved with the union, however the raise came as a slap in the face to most of us. Personally I have been treated by management past and present like a
baby treats a diaper, or like a toilet except I'm cleaner than the disgusting bathrooms they make us use at MB.
The favoritism is out of control there as management turns a blind eye to that, thinking we don't notice. On swing shift now everybody is supposed to be used all over the casino in vain attempt to seem fair. However the same dealers sit in the Crystal Room night after night with their attitudes thinking they are better than everybody else. On the rare occasion when some of them get pulled out of the room one I witnessed couldn't pay $1100 blackjack, the floor person stopped them before making a costly mistake, but they are the little sweetheart to the pencil so they get whatever they want.
The place sickens me, no wonder so many dealers refer to MB as Hell, I know one dealer that has it typed into their cell phone as "Hell" LOL.
Oh yeah we get a 19 cent raise, we have to eat from a trough of food that I wouldn't serve to my dog. We are forced to use disgusting bathrooms that make a broken down gas stations look like the Taj Mahal.
The nepotism is off the chart and Mandalay management thinks this gesture is gonna to keep out the union, I signed my card months ago!!!

We thank you for your unique perspective on our situation at MB. You say you got a 19 cent raise; which is a far cry from the $1.42 that the more recent hires received. It's as if management is telling us that we long time dealers don't deserve the same respect that the more recent hires do. Are they asking us to quit and come back? Don't get me wrong, I'm not against any of our dealers receiving a 22% raise, I just feel that our longer term veterans deserve at least that much of an increase.

I am a Mirage dealer REALLY feeling the LOVE after getting my letter telling me that I'll be making a WHOPPING $7.75 an hour starting the next pay period! MANY of us at the Mirage have worked there since DAY ONE..that would be over 18 years. AND the Mirage was not our first job! I want what the Bartenders make...$16.35 an hour. The only way I'll get that is by sending in my TWU Authorization Card, and then voting YES for the Union. Mandalay Bay Dealers...we really are in this together! This Corporation cares nothing for any of us. We need to stand together! Keep sending in your Authorization cards!

Always great hearing from our Mirage sisters and brothers. And you're right, we are in this together and hopefully the rest of MGM-Mirage dealers will follow suit. I'm sure they will soon realize that this corporation is dedicated ONLY to their bottom line, and to hell with the little guys that help keep it afloat. Send in those cards and tell others about our mutual sites!

LMAO!!!!! at the hourly raise. Once again Mandalay Bay Management shoots itself in the foot. All that raise managed to do was piss off a lot of the dealers that have been there from day one. If you are relatively new at Mandalay Bay then going from $6.33 to $7.75 is okay, but  if you are making $7.70 and are now going to make $7.84 an hour than you just brought that many more who were on the fence about the union, and are ready to vote Yes for a union. This just shows MB managements limited capacity to see the big picture. Obviously they are doing the raise thing because they are worried about the union coming in. What they fail to see is that their "Day late dollar short" gesture only pissed off the dealers that much more. We all know that with a union we can negotiate $12 to $15 an hour. This ham handed gesture from Mandalay Bay just got a whole bunch more dealers to vote yes for the union. Thank you Mandalay management.

As a 9 year veteran of MB, I also was a bit "pissed" to find that new hires are receiving just over a  22% pay increase (not a bad start but I think we can do better), compared to my 3.1% raise. And 25 year veterans that began with Circus Circus are getting a whopping 8 cents. That's right, 8 cents! That's less than 1%. Could management be any more insulting? So thank you MGM-Mirage, for giving us an even stronger push to unionize. And for the rest of you, cards are waiting to be printed out.

I hope dealers at MGM-Mirage corporation are not swayed in their union vote by this sudden interest in dealer wage inequity and need for cost of living increases. Remember what they arbitrarily give they can arbitrarily take away.   It is however interesting That Harrah's makes no attempt at staving off any union movement. I believe they (management) feel confident that they have been proactive in their anti-union fight and a vote will fail. Those that work there know what that means.   Dealers surely must realize that no concessions will be given to dealers by Harrah's. With decreasing toke income and near non existent wage increases, what other incentive is needed to seek union representation. Everyone is feeling the effect of rising energy and food costs. Inflation pressures in general will guarantee you a lower standard of living in the years to come. If the time for representation is not now, then when?

So you don't think this wage increase was given out of love, or a devotion to our financial well being? This couldn't have anything to do with our little union drive, could it? Sorry, couldn't resist. But I do agree that this raise hardly makes up for our decreasing tokes, or the rising cost of living. So the union drive shall proceed.

Okay so we all got an hourly raise.  For those of you that deal at the original MGM-Mirage properties, we at Mandalay Bay are truly happy for you. At $6.33 per hour, an increase to $7.75 is a nice bump to start with. But for most of us, it's pretty close to a slap in the face. For those of us at MB who opened the joint 9 years ago, we got $7.60 an hour and now we're bumped up to $7.86. That's an increase of 26 cents which is 3 cents more than our 3% yearly raise would have been. What really bothers me is that new hires (who are also earning $7.75 an hour) are now going to make 11 cents less than the 9 year veterans. Not that I begrudge any new hire from earning that amount (actually I'd like to see them making a lot more), I just feel Mandalay Bay should show a bit more loyalty to it's dealers who have been there from the beginning. Now once we unionize, I'm sure we can structure a more fair and equitable pay scale that might better reflect Mandalay Bay's sincere loyalty to it's loyal employees. And in this way we can truly increase dealer morale. Remember, a happy dealer is a more productive dealer and that translates to higher profits for everyone. So once again, if you haven't done so already, please send in those TWU cards now! And if you already have, please tell some other dealers about this website. Joining the Dealers Union is our only shot to securing our futures.

Many of some of the most educated people in the country know the NEED for the workers of this country to be organized. Take a look at our economy today and ask yourself "Why is it so?". It is because the corporations have declared war on their workers, Union or not. The corporations have been very effective in "brainwashing" the American worker into thinking they do not need to be organized. Is it that Corporate has been so effective in brainwashing the employee into believing that a union will never work?
Or is it that  fear has taken over?  Fear of losing one's job , Fear of losing one's green Card and being deported, Fear of losing one's present benefits, Fear of losing ones 401K plan, Fear of losing ones job security, or Fear of losing ones toke security? So which one is it?

All For One And One For All!

I just found out that the dealers that dealt in the Baccarat Tournament last weekend, all received a collectors chip for the outstanding job
they did.  Hey management, how about the rest of us? I worked in the Baccarat room all weekend doing 12 hour shifts on swing, and I got
squat. Why is it only the "tournament baccarat dealers" get rewarded when the rest of us dealers work twice as hard and put in more hours? I
know theirs a reason; what is it? And while we're at it, why don't any blackjack or crap dealers dealers get a reward when they deal in those
tournaments?  What is sooo special about "tournament baccarat dealers"? And come to think of it; don't they ALWAYS get a special gift after a
tournament?  Leather jackets, leather bags, decorative crystals, etc. Talk about your favoritism; no wonder we're looking to unionize. It's
seems the only way to equalize the dealers is for the dealers to vote on it.  We know we can't rely on management. I'm sending my card in today!!

Thanks for saying what all the dealers on day shift have been thinking. As you mentioned, baccarat tournaments are one good example, but also individual favoritism has been running rampant since we opened our doors 9 years ago. Supervisors related to dealers working in the same pit, the pencil making the same dealers extra day after day due to "special gifts", etc. The only way to stop favoritism and as you put it "equalize" the dealers, is to vote the union in. We start by printing a TWU card, filling it out and sending it in.

Not wanting to mince words :  WAKE UP DEALERS OF LAS VEGAS !

It took us six months to vote the union in.  Why?  The main one being FEAR. Ooooh, what if someone finds out I sent in a TWU card.  Get over that fear. No one will find out unless you tell them.  Sending in a card doesn't vote the union in, it just gives you the right to choose if you want a union or not. Getting the word out has been slow and the lack of feedback astounds me.  I bet a lot of dealers don't even know there are websites to check out.  I didn't hear about our website until two months before we voted the union in. For those of you who know about the websites, print out copies of feedbacks from different casinos that you relate to, that hit very close to home, and leave them in the break room for others to read (just make sure your name and/or e-mail address is not printed anywhere).  It might help, seeing what other dealers have written, and it could encourage them to step forward, and be a deciding factor on whether they send in a TWU card, knowing that others have sent in theirs.
The Wynn and Caesar's dealers are here to help you.  The Wynn dealers helped and supported us, so that what happened to them, wouldn't happen to us.  We don't want you to take as long as we did to vote the union in, because of our initial fear.  Send in your TWU cards so you can protect yourselves.  We did it, So can you !  You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
We are not against management, and enjoy working with our co-workers and the majority of our floor people.  Unfortunately, these are not the people who decide our fate.  It is the Corporations we work for, and Corporate Management who enforces the rules.  We are numbers to them, and corporations will do anything to save a buck at their employees expense, because they would be stupid not to.  What does waiting accomplish ?  The corporations want you to wait.  At least if you send in your cards, you give yourselves an option, the choice, to vote.
We had a landslide victory.  380 to 128.  I can tell you the majority of the people who voted "NO" were new hires with less than a years experience, and the group of people that we have come to call "The Favorite Few".  These are the dealers that get along extremely well with management, many were brought over to Caesar's by management, and they get lots of little "perks".  They were very helpful in creating division amongst the dealers during the union drive.
I'd also like to address one more issue.  In the feedbacks, I noticed mention of the Asian dealers.  I feel compelled to say that during the union
drive and vote, I found a renewed respect for these hard working individuals.  They are your friends!  They were our greatest allies, despite
how they were threatened and intimidated.  Our upper management put the fear of God into them, concerning their green cards and references to
deportation.  They held strong and persevered.  Talk to them.  You will find that they were mistreated like everyone else, and were not happy.
Bottom line :  We are just trying to protect our tokes, and get back what we use to have, and hopefully improve on that with each new contract we negotiate.  That's right.  That WE negotiate.  The DEALERS, not the Corporations.
Please send in your TWU cards today.  You are not alone.  There is strength in numbers, and we are there to help and support you every step of the way, as we know you will help others, once you vote the union in.

I hope that every dealer that has read this realizes that it is all true.  We have nothing to fear, One of the attractions of  the dealers job was the Tokes.  And now that is at Risk, Dealers you must at least open your minds, listen to the dealers that have been there.

Our benefits are slowly diminishing. We are basically working to maintain  our own Health Insurance coverage. Guess what it is not going to get better, Nor is this going to disappear.  We all have to come to a decision, and protect what we have earned !   We have to look towards our future and our family's future. Those that are single parents your family at home depend on you.  You work so hard, How can you let it all just slip away?

Dear fellow dealers, If you delay on your vote for the union, be ready to take what ever this corporation has ready to dish out to you. At least, if you vote in the union now, you will be able to secure what ever the "Status Quo" situation is right now at your job. They can't take or change anything that is in place as of now. That means they cannot redistribute your tokes (really what union is all about) nor could they change anything else until you agree on it. Please don't look back and say "we should of or could of" , do it now!

Thanks for saying it the way it is! Even if we're reasonably satisfied with the way things are right now, locking in the "Status Quo" will insure that nothing else can be taken away without our say so. And that includes our tokes. I think we all like our tokes right where they are now, so send in an authorization card to keep it that way!

The mirage floormen must go to a mandatory union busting meeting.  Have they done this at your hotel yet?  If they have, what do they expect them to do?  I feel bad for our floormen.

The floor supervisors at the Mandalay Bay have had meetings on how to handle union issues, and the laws regarding union organization. Even though floor supervisors are management, they are between a rock and a hard place. Since most supervisors would prefer not to get involved, union discussions should be kept out of ear shot to avoid an uncomfortable situation.

I would like to speak on the area of favoritism. Does management and the schedule department think that we don't see them walking around with gifts from the dealers and then see those dealers with the best schedules? And why is it that if you are married to or living with management you are given better schedules? Do they think that we don't see the same dealers are extra everyday? in the spot for the EO? It is so blatant that is sickens me and if you don't see it OPEN YOUR EYES!! and if you are buying your shift and schedule SHAME ON YOU!! Hopefully WHEN we vote in the union this will stop. Please sign a card don't wait soon it will be too late!

Thank you for your observant comments . Yes there is unfortunately a lot of that favoritism going around.   But if you have been in this business long enough you know that this has always been an issue that certainly needs to be addressed.  And Hopefully if the dealers get their cards signed and send them, we can stop all of this so called gifts (which we know they are really meant for other favors in return).

I want to say that I am a dealer at the Mandalay Bay since day one, and I've seen all the changes with MRG and now with the gradual screw we are getting from  MGM/Mirage. I notice the dealers are very quiet. Are they asleep, or just incognito? I hope the dealers are aware that we are not "Special", that our money spends the same and there is nothing to stop them from taking ours! Wake up Mandalay Bay Dealers;  We are getting screwed and it's going to get worse. As time passes and Steve Wynn is getting closer to his court date, MGM/Mirage is just hoping we don't get that vote in.
Then when our money is distributed among others that have not earned it as we have, it will be to late because getting the money back is the toughest part. You may as well say bye, bye to 15% of our tokes. Our benefits are worse this year.  What are we waiting for? Get the cards signed and send them in Today!!!! DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER!!!!

We appreciate what you are trying to convey to our fellow dealers.  In answering your questions, I believe that many of our dealers are in denial that our tokes are in DANGER of being seized and that our benefits are gradually being diminished. Unfortunately, MGM/Mirage is waiting and playing on our fears hoping that we hesitate long enough so that they can       swoop in and confiscate a portion of our hard earned tokes.  It's up to us dealers to speed up this process and beat MGM/Mirage at their own game.

Just thought I would let you know how well promises are kept. The devil himself (Steve Wynn) promised his dealers a bonus of up to $6,000.00 if the hotel made over 395 million. Since he took our tokes, that is what he said he would reward us with. (I almost throw up every time I hear it.) Well, he had to pay the first bonus out. In order to "earn" this we had to follow his stipulations; First you have to break the year into quarters. Jan-March is the first quarter April-June is the second quarter and July-September is the third quarter and October-December is the final quarter.  The first thing that we couldn't do is call in sick.  If you called in sick in one quarter it cost you $500.  Now if you called in sick in the first and second quarter it cost you $1,000.  If you called in in every quarter it cost you $2,000.  So if you didn't call in all year you received $2,000.  The next thing is you received shopper reports.  Each quarter you received one Shopper report. If you failed any it cost you.  Each one you failed cost you $500.  If you passed all you got $2,000.  The third thing you had to accomplish was surveillance reports.  You got four and if you never failed one you get $2,000.  Each one you failed cost you $500.   Now let me explain what happened to me.  I received 2 shopper reports all year.  (they would have you sign them when they received them).  I signed two.  When the bonus came around there was four.  Don't know where they came from!!!!  I got one attendance.  Then I got two surveillance reports all year (suppose to get four).  Again you had to sign them during the course of the year.  When it came time for my bonus they say I failed one so it cost me $500.  I never signed a failed surveillance but it showed up in the end.  We had it all in writing that we only had to make 395 million in table games to get the bonus.  I guess the devil aimed to low and he had to pay us.  So now he has raised next years to 577 million.  More or less he is telling us we will never get another one.  If by some miracle we do hit his mark the next year will probably be a billion.  So even if it is in writing they can still screw you!!!!!

See promises, even in writing, don't matter to these corporations. You don't matter and they let you know it everyday. In the paper it says MGM/Mirage is laying off 1900 people after their most profitable year in history!!! See how much they care about the work these 1900 people did for them.  I just wanted to try and explain the bonus system at Wynn.

Stay strong and sign those cards!!!!

Thank you for sharing this illuminating portrayal of whom you refer to as the "Devil",as we now understand why.  So let us understand this, you are getting what he refers to a bonus? Sounds more like he just throwing you back a few crumbs of the $7,000,000  that he skimmed  from YOUR toke pool.  What a guy!  His mother must be so proud. But then again, upper management at MGM/Mirage is not much better. Keep in mind, they are subtle and systematically diminishing our Health benefits. Obviously our tokes are next on their list, because they can and will change their word at anytime they see fit.  Our well being is of NO concern to them. Who got a cost of living raise this year?
Who got better insurance this past enrollment?
Who got a better retirement plan?
Who went in the office or to HR and negotiated better working conditions?
Management says things like, "We would rather the workers come to us with their concerns so we may address them without a middleman".
What a laugh!
WHEN has management EVER addressed the workers concerns?
And what "middleman" are they talking about? WE ARE THE UNION.
They say things like, "Do you want a few making the rules (referring to the Union)?"
Well, who makes the "rules" now? Mr. Lanni? The casino manager? The shift boss?
That IS a "few" making the decisions on YOUR future.
Isn't it time that we all start making our own decisions? Isn't it time that we appoint who we want to represent us rather than the corporate executives?

The MGM/Mirage's Upper Management thinks we are stupid. They just do whatever they want with us and with our schedules as a ploy to discourage us from uniting.
They want us to believe that they have the right to do this because we have no protection. They will talk about hiring other dealers so as to make us think they are ready to fire us.  This is a ploy just to try and scare dealers into not wanting the Union.
At the Mandalay Bay they are supposed to have people coming around to our games with video cameras! We have been prompted to say, "Welcome to the Mandalay Bay! It is a fun place to work!"  When first they prompted us, and then told us this is for new hires. Well, in my 30yrs I have never had a company have to show me a video to convince me that I want that job! That is ridiculous!  The "TRUTH" is that they have Union Busters doing these videos! So they can twist it around and show it as "You see...our dealers don't need a Union, they are all happy here!"  So don't be surprised if you guys get the same ploy because that is all that it is! WE NEED TO UNITE AND WE NEED TO DO IT NOW!! before it's too late! We have to protect our Tokes, Benefits and our Future!
Sending in those Confidential TWU Cards is the first and best step to take. Remember...in numbers we will prevail!

Please dealers open your minds...see what is really going on!  You have nothing to lose, it is all CONFIDENTIAL!!! WE ARE ALL BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THIS. WE ARE IN IT TOGETHER SO WE CANNOT LOSE!!!!!                                               Courtesy of TWU Mirage Dealers.org Website

Thanks  Mirage Dealers for loaning us your feedback.  For management to think that we dealers are stupid enough to believe that they need a tape to attract new hires is laughable. That's almost as ridiculous as management  trying to assure us that the reason they fire certain floor people is to protect us because they CARE for Our welfare. And here's another, it's also as ridiculous as management requiring the floor people to take classes to deter us from unionizing.

Tip Sharing, and decent health insurance are two very good reasons for the  need of a dealers union, but how about our Hostile Work Environment ????   When Mandalay Bay was run by Mandalay Resort Group or Circus Circus it was considered one of the worst places to work on the strip by many for it's poor  treatment of its dealers. When MGM/Mirage  took over, they kept a lot of the same bad polices that MRG held. I mean for god sake we don't even have a dealers  room.  Nepotism runs wild here, and its in your  face they don't even try to hide it.        As the rest of us sit idly by and watch   the favoritism run rampant to the select few that are privileged  with scheduling advantages  sweet spot positioning in the casino, it makes me want  to  puke.  Then management try's to pretend like its not happening.  This creates a  loathsome hostile work environment.  It is a very dark and angry place to work.  Morale is at an all time low, and I can't think of one dealer that is happy there
except for the select few who get taken care of through favoritism.
A dealers union could help to resolve this matter, and make the job a more even playing field and help to resolve such injustices as well as many others. This is just the tip of the iceberg.  Placement in the casino should be based  on  how well you deal not who you know.  For God sake we have one  game dealers, dealing in the Crystal room!  It's a mockery to the casino business.

Thanks for your inferences to the different aspects of favoritism going on at the Bay. We especially agree with your assessment that nepotism is of great concern to most dealers, but management seems to ignore it. It's as if they don't acknowledge it, then we might not notice it and all the special favors associated with these few "Special Folks".

Do not take the "wait and see" approach to this situation. If you do,  you  will only be very very sorry if you had the chance to secure your tokes, and  did  not. For when the judgment comes down on March 19th, I believe, most casinos will probably re-distribute the tokes as they did at  Wynn.  Do not set yourselves up for this. Put a card in  immediately and vote yes for the union. Caesar's Palace is the only casino on the  strip to do this so far. They saw it coming. Voting for the union secures what  you have right now.  I f you like what you have right now, then you should secure  it. Thank you!

I believe strongly in what this dealer is saying.  At the Mandalay Bay we have heard what MGM is offering us, which is nothing ,not to go union.  And the letter written by Terry Lanni is not a legal document. sign a card today!  Thank you.

In reply to feedback #23, The TWU has received all of their information from your fellow dealer's so please stop with the propaganda crap.
You do not have to send in a card, you do not have to vote, and you do not have to pay any dues.
You can just whistle yourself a happy tune and wait for management to steal your money and set you up with a paper trail.  Your day one seniority is worth about as much as your delightful feedback and your great 401k can be whittled down to practically nothing (go talk to the MGM DEALERS about that.) Oh and get ready your fabulous medical premiums will be going way way up in 2009. So please don't speak for me.
The dealer's who can see the writing on the wall, went to the TWU and asked them for their help.
The TWU has NEVER EVER solicited any Mandalay Bay Dealers. So evidently thing's are not so great at the BAY.

Thank you Mirage you bring up some points, especially that things are not so great with us at the Bay. The dealers  have to realize that the conditions we are working under are unfair and discriminating. Many of these dealers have been working under such scrutiny for so long ,that it has become a way of life to them and they need  understand that if they don't wake up  now, later will definitely be to late !  But I think you've given feedback #23 quite a few things to think about.

Hi Fellow Dealers at Mandalay Bay,  The Caesars Palace family welcomes  you to the TWU and hope that all dealers  will have the insight to sign your card  and protect your tokes. In one of the  feedbacks below, the writer stated that  some think to vote for the union would be declaring war on the management.  Nothing could be farther than the truth. Most of our supervisors understand the  situation we are all in. If any of
your supervisors came from Caesars, post  Harrah's, they could enlighten you on  just how bad a corporation can be. There  will be some supervisors and  managers that will make it their personal mission  to keep you from voting in the  union. Ask yourself, What is it to them? They  don't pay your salaries,  insurance premiums, or 401k matches. Do they want part  of your tokes? Several of our  managers committed Unfair Labor Practices during  our election campaign, but we  did not file on them because we won at such a large  margin.  Post-union  election, some of our managers are still committing Unfair  Labor Practices which we  intend on addressing through notification to corporate  of these violations or
through our avenues of the justice system if needed.  There are laws that  protect you from "hostile working environments", retaliation  and changing the  policy and procedures during and after your organizational  drive. Remember I  said it is only a handful of managers acting like this, most  are on our  side!!! You can fight!!!! Do not be at the mercy of the "Corporate  Greed" any longer!  Remember the Local 721 is our union...we will run the  union...it is up to us to fight the indignant working conditions we are now  subjected to. Sign your cards today and call for a vote and protect your tokes  and your dignity!!

Thank you for your feedback.  I just hope that all the Mandalay Bay dealers read and understand all that you have conveyed to us.  This is exactly what we need , the support from dealers that are  already there!

02-11-08  From a Local Fulltime Dealer

In response to post #23:
You would like better health insurance and wages? Have you went to HR and discussed that with them? If so, what did they tell you? Are they going to get right on it for you? There is only ONE WAY to get better benefits from the corporations...UNION.
Union Dues? As the webmasters pointed out, Nevada is a "Right to Work" State, which MEANS that no employee anywhere in the State must join a Union OR pay Union dues.
Now to tie these two things together, Dues and wages/benefits: The TWU's constitution states that the workers dues will not exceed 2.5 times their hourly wage. However, it does not take into consideration a "tip paying job" such as a Dealers. So, Local 721 has come up with a dues formula that is basically $5 per month for every $10K annual average of the dealer. Would it be fair if the dealers who are making say $90K a year pay the same dues as a dealer making say $40K? If it were to be a "flat dues fee" it would not be fair to the dealers who work in lower income casinos. So, there IS a scale which will be followed. Now, if the Union, which is YOU, negotiated lower Health care costs of say just $20 per month and also a higher wage of just say $0.50 an hour, that would translate into $100 per month extra for you. Now, a dealer who is making say $50K a year may be paying $25 per month in dues (based on the scale laid out), resulting in $75 per month MORE in your pocket AFTER dues are paid. And that is JUST the beginning.
As for what is happening at The Wynn and Caesars Palace, what makes you think nothing is happening at either of those places? Did your "management" tell you that? But of course. As the webmasters pointed out, The Wynn dealers are in a situation where you will soon find yourself, trying to get their seized tokes back, while Steve-O is waiting on the courts to decide and will NOT give them back unless he is told he must by the courts. As far as the Caesars Palace dealers, well they JUST voted in the Union in December, right before Christmas and the New Year. Their tips  are NOW PROTECTED no matter what the courts decide with the Wynn. Yours are NOT.
Now, at BOTH casinos where the dealers have voted to UNITE amongst themselves, they now are protected by Federal Law called the National Labor Relations Act. Is the poster of post #23 afforded those protections? No, because they are NOT in a Collective Bargaining situation. Also, the dealers at the Wynn and Caesars Palace now have Shop Stewards, who are allowed to go into the office any time a dealer is called in and is under the threat of discipline or a change to their working conditions. The Steward, while acting in that capacity, is at the same level as management and also has investigatory authority/power. So, if management says, "We have you on tape", the Steward has the right to see the tape. If the Floor has written a statement, the Steward has the right to question the Floor. Does the poster from post #23 have those rights? No. Only those who have voted in a Union have those rights.
Also, with a Union the members will also have access to a Labor Attorney at no cost. Does the poster of #23 have that? No.
To the poster of #23 I say this, quit drinking their Cool-aid! Wake up and protect yourself, your income and your future.
One last thing, what is written on this website is written by dealers from Mandalay Bay, NOT the TWU. This website has been composed by dealers, just like you. These dealers have done all of this work for F-R-E-E to help protect themselves and the rest of the dealers at The Bay.

Thank you so much for your feedback.  You hit every nail on the head perfectly, and we appreciate all your support.

As an ex-Mandalay Bay Dealer who now works at one of the union properties, I strongly recommend that you send in your authorization cards. I know there is a great deal of pressure by management not to do so, but keep these things in mind.
Without union representation;

Your wages and benefits are not guaranteed.

You are alone in matters of disciplinary action with management being prosecutor, judge and jury.

Seniority is what management tells you it is.

Without a contract you are basically like an independent contractor in a "Right to Work State".

I can tell you that no one in management will know that you signed and sent in an Authorization card. When it comes time to vote,  no one will know how you voted.

REMEMBER YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE IN FRONT OF THIS DRIVE TO BE BEHIND IT. YOU CAN STAY ANONYMOUS AND STILL PROTECT YOURSELF!

Thanks for the feedback.  First of all, I can't believe any dealer would ever leave Mandalay Bay for a now union property.  (Just kidding) Congratulations on your "Status Quo".  Everything  you stated is "right on". I especially want to reiterate to the readers that no one will know that you sent in a Confidential Authorization card, or how you voted for the union unless YOU decide to tell them.

This website is filled with propaganda. I can't trust a union that tells lies to people.
1. Mandalay Bay NEVER had a dealers room. Get it straight.
2. When we did the employee surveys we never had to input our ID number or social security. More lies told by the TWU.
3. Our 401k is a match by the employer up to 6%. More lies told by TWU.
The TWU has wanted to organize the dealers since the 80's, I read the legal document about TWU. There are five pages on dues. Dues are based on your income. So a dealer will pay more dues than a CAt bus driver.
TWU has done NOTHING for Wynn or Caesars Palace.
I am a dealer at Mandalay Bay since day one. Sure, I would like better health benefits and make salaray that a cocktail server does. But TWU will not help the dealers in any way. It's all about the dues with TWU. Go away TWU and leave us alone at Mandalay Bay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you feel that the TWU has been untruthful in any way, but I believe we can clear up any misunderstandings that you may have. Referring to your first statement "Mandalay Bay NEVER had a dealers room, get it straight" No one ever said we had a dealers room. We have simply been requesting  one for the past 9 years.

As for your second statement, "When we did the employee surveys, we never had to input our ID numbers or Soc Sec" If you are referring to the excerpt from the" EMPLOYEE SURVEY" under "ISSUES", please re-read it as there are no references to ID or Soc Sec numbers needed to submit this survey. You might be thinking of the medical survey we submitted late last year that required some personal information.

As for your third statement and I quote " Our 401K is a match by the employer of up to 6%." You are probably referring to "401K" under "ISSUES" which states that in past years employers matched our contributions dollar for dollar up to 6%. But in recent years, that has been cut to 3%. In reality the dollar for dollar contribution has been reduced to 50 cents on the dollar  but is still for the first 6%; Which is tantamount to the 3% that was actually mentioned  in the "401K" article.

Your next issue concerns union dues. You are correct when you state that union dues are based on your income. At  this time we don't know the exact amount  as yet, but the TWU has promised that it will not exceed $50 per month.  But as you probably know by now, working in a "Right to Work" state such as Nevada means all union dues are completely optional.

As for your statement quoted " TWU has done NOTHING for the Wynn or Caesars Palace." You couldn't be more wrong!  Both Wynn and Caesars dealers are in constant negotiations with their prospective management teams. Although Wynn dealers have made significant progress, they are holding off on a contract until a final decision is reached from the Nevada Supreme Court on the legality of the tip sharing issue.  As for the Caesars dealers, not only have they also made progress in their negotiations, but they have the distinction of being the first casino dealers to have protected themselves from any and all forms of  tip sharing, unlike every other non-unionized casino in Nevada.

So you say you want better benefits and wages. Here's a thought: Print, fill out, sign and send in your Confidential TWU card as soon as possible, and  forget about paying any union dues until after our contract with management has been signed and ratified by the dealers at Mandalay Bay. And here's a bonus, by voting the dealers union in your tokes will now be protected  from any form of tip sharing, just like at Caesars.

Although we appreciate your prospective, perhaps the next time you decide to enlighten us with your opinions you might take the time to research your facts a little more  diligently.  Just so you know, WE are not the TWU; WE are the collective voice for the dealers at  Mandalay Bay.

Consider this, when the dealers at Mandalay Bay go Union, you as  Supervisors  WILL BENEFIT TOO! How you say? Easy. The Floor comes from the rank  of the Dealers. When the dealers have a contract and security, do you think they  will  want to leave those conditions to be "promoted" to the Floor, where they  return to "at-will" employees with no guarantees? No way.

So, to get dealers to move to the Floor, management will have to increase   the benefits of Supervisors equal to that of the dealers. It may even mean a  CONTRACT for Supervisors! With this in mind, it will also serve Pit Managers and  Shift Managers in the same way. The Union WILL be good for EVERYONE!

Consider this, Unions gave us the weekends (2 days off). Unions gave us  overtime pay. Unions gave us a 40 hour work week. Unions gave us safety on the job. Unions gave us insurance. Unions gave us retirement plans. Without Unions, we would have none of this stuff, but to be competitive with Union workers,  management was forced into providing us with what we consider the "basics". If it were not for Unions, you may be sending your child off to work instead of  off  to school.

So, Supervisors at The Bay, remember, the dealers Union WILL BENEFIT YOU  TOO! Do NOT fight it. Do NOT do the "dirty work" of  upper management. To do these things, you will have tomorrow exactly what you have today, and maybe even less.  When the dealers vote the Union in, eventually you too will have more.

Thanks for your feedback, and you bring up some good points.  Unions can benefit all who are in or associated with it's members. They're good for society as a whole.  And I believe most supervisors get this; unfortunately there is still a hand full of bosses who have been brainwashed into believing that it's to their advantage to bust these unions for whatever reason- a promise of a better position, or a bonus, or a share of our tokes.  Some have even been told that  they're first in line to be transferred to the City Center when it opens.  And since it's totally illegal to carry out any of these promises, upper management has no intention of making good on any of them.

So we asked for a dealers' room and what did we get? Well nothing yet. But we were promised a quiet room. Not exactly what we had in mind.  But then at the dealers meeting back on the 26 th of January, we found out that this quiet room was going to be enjoyed by all Mandalay Bay employees.  So instead of a dealers' room that 500 of us could take turns using, we now get to share this room with about 7000 other employees. Gosh management, your just too good to us!  But here's our question: Why is it that the poker dealers have had their own dealers' room for the past 9 years.  Is it that they're more special than us?  Do they bring in more revenue than us?  Why is it that Mandalay Bay is the only casino on and off the strip without a break room for it's table game dealers.

Mandalay Bay management laid its cards on the table at the last Mandatory Meeting, they offered us nothing period.  A poor excuse for a dealer's room.  More important to us is no mention of better benefits, wage increase, or flex time.  The letter from Terry Lanni is not worth the paper it is written on, you need it in a signed Legal Binding Contract!!!  Let's not wait till it's to late .

I've been hearing a few dealers say that they like the idea of a dealers union but they want to wait and see what happens over at the Wynn and at Caesars first before they commit. As far as I see , this is exactly what the corporate heads are hoping for. They want dealers to hold off for as long as it takes for a ruling to come down on the legality of the Wynn Tip-Sharing Policy. This way they can quickly implement this policy before the dealers have a chance to vote the union in. Corporate realizes that tip-sharing is a lucrative way to save the company millions of dollars per year no matter whom they decide to share these tips with. They don't have to share our tips with merely floorpeople and pit personnel. They could actually award a percentage of our tips for themselves in the form of bonuses. Don't think this could happen? It can! But only if were stupid enough to trust these corporate big shots to treat us fairly. And so far that hasn't worked out too well, now has it?
So let's forget about the" WAIT AND SEE" method, and proceed with the" HURRY UP AND SEND IN A UNION AUTHORIZATION CARD" method! This is the only way to stop these Fat Cats in their tracks.

Thanks for your feedback and yes we agree. There is no telling what upper management could decide to do with the 15-20% of our tokes that they will skim. To boost it's stock price, MGM-Mirage could decide to offer dividends to it's shareholders out of our tokes. And yes, the longer we at Mandalay Bay and other casinos "WAIT AND SEE", the better chance the BIG BOYS have in seizing a portion of our tokes.

Their going to take at least 15% of your tokes also, if we don't unionize fast. So print out a TWU Card, fill it out, sign it and send it in. Toke sharing affects all of us. So far only Caesars Dealers are safe.
So stay strong and unite before it's too late!

Hey the sites up and guys it looks great, and it should, it took you long enough! Anyway congratulations!
So I've heard a few swing shift dealers stating that voting in the union is like declaring war on management. I disagree. I like and respect most of the floorpeople and pit managers I work with. It's the corporate heads that I don't trust. Mr. Lanni recently sent us all "letters" stating that our tokes were safe from the now famous Wynn Toke Sharing Policy and that we have his WORD on that. You see this is where I have a problem. Our Chairman and CEO expects us to take him at his WORD in a "pretty little letter" but won't prove his WORD through a legally binding agreement. How stupid does he think we are? You know he's just trying to buy time before the ruling comes in on the toke sharing issue.  Chances are Steve Wynn will prevail due to the fact that he has a lot of clout with the state legislature and plenty of backing. So assuming he does win and toke sharing is pronounced legal, guess what?  Bye, bye 15% off the top! Unless of course we were astute enough to vote the union in before that ruling comes in. If that's the case, then     "Status Quo" kicks in and all benefits freeze to what they were at that time.  No one can touch or adjust our benefits including our tokes.
So it's all about timing and beating Mr. Lanni at his own game. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about improving our wages and health benefits, but protecting our tokes is job one as far as I am concerned.  And the only way to do that is to send in those authorization cards as fast as possible so that we can vote in the union at Mandalay Bay!

Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate your observations about taking Mr. Lanni at his WORD without the benefit of a Contract. Our tokes are way too important to gamble with, we need a collective bargaining agreement to secure our Future!

touching on all the important points and  setting the right tone. You hit the nail on the head with your statements:
“The TWU are the ones  who will help us with the administrative duties of organizing and negotiating, a  lot like a professional athlete’s agent negotiates a contract. The athletes have  no problem with compensating agents for their
 assistance, and neither do  we.”
I’ve heard that athletes and actors pay their agents around 10%.  For  most of us dealers that 10% would be around $4,000 to $7,000 a year.
Union dues will not start until a contract is in effect and are likely to  be around $400 to $500 a year.  That is WAY less than the thousands of  dollars the Wynn dealers are having stolen from their tokes. And because  Nevada is a right-to-work state you don’t have to pay those dues
if you don’t  want to (though most of us will).
And to expand your list of who is represented by a Union:
 School  teachers, firefighters, police officers,
 supermarket workers, nurses, postal  workers,
 airline pilots, airport workers,
 aerospace workers, air traffic  controllers,
 auto workers, train dispatchers,
 actors,  athletes,
 bricklayers, carpenters,
 steelworkers, iron workers, utility  workers,
federal, state, county, and city workers,
casino dealers in  Michigan, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
 Good company to be in.

If you’ve already been through company union-busting meetings, you know  what’s involved.  If you have NOT been through these meetings, please know  that they are conducted strictly by an outline. They are tedious,  aggravating, intimidating, fear-mongering.  Yet they are
by the book and  very predictable. Try to learn what they will throw at you so it becomes less  surprising and  less boring.  You can sit there and almost go down a  checklist of what they will say and do.  And remember they are highly-paid to  tell you mis-truths and half-truths.
Become informed and ask questions.  This format here is a great way to  ask questions that you might not want to ask at work.
Good luck to the Mandalay Bay Dealers!  Stay strong and stand  tall!

Thank you visitor for your kind words and good points. First of all I know we are going to be in some great company when all dealers in this town go union. For most of us to learn more of how these union busters operate, check out our "Video Links" on our home page. You'll find a series of videos entitled "Union Busters 101". Some of the stuff they pull is unimaginable. But you'll get a better idea of how they work their  Voodoo! It's amazing that a company will pay literally millions of dollars to these clowns, rather than a fraction of that to improve our benefits, and our morale. Unbelievable!

Go for it! Don't listen to the bull****! coming from management. Ask yourselves a few questions....
How is it that the maids, carpenters, electricians, bartenders and almost everyone else is part of a union and it is good for them but will be bad for
 you?
How is it that Mandalay Bay can run with all of the current unions in place but one more, YOURS, will kill the property?
The answer to these questions is that the union IS GOOD for you. It  protects you from management. Why do the waitresses get paid more per hour than  the dealers when they make no revenue for the casino? The dealers make the  revenue  for the casino. The dealers face all the heat and yet get paid less than  a cocktail waitress.
 Go figure!

Thanks for the feedback. And you bring up some really good points. Unions are good for society. They bring security and peace of mind to our lives. In our particular case, I think toke protection is our most immediate concern. So keep sending in those TWU cards.

Wynn dealer here.  I'm hoping to be working with you to improve our  jobs.  Together we will be strong.   You should all be thankful that there is one person who is running this website that is willing to stand up for all of you.    Congrats on getting the site up!   Dealers at Mandalay Bay are tough.  If you stay strong and together  anything can be done.  Do you want a higher wage?  Do you want the same benefits or  better?  not to worry about having to fill out a survey, if you will be covered  for certain things?
Do you want to protect your tokes?  After working for the devil himself (Steve Wynn).  I know I can never  trust
anything these casino execs tell me anymore!!!!

We can't tell you how much your support means to us. It gives us the courage to fight the same battle that you  Wynn Dealers and the Caesar's Palace Dealers have been going through.  And don't worry, we're not falling for their lies.  We've already heard enough.  Thanks again guys.

I guess by now we've all received our letters from our Chairman and CEO, Mr. Lanni. For the rest of you, allow me to quote," Our company will not implement any type of tip sharing program at any of our resorts. This commitment extends to all of our casinos and will be instituted as policy at City Center when it opens in 2009. You have my word!" Well their you have it folks: we have his word! That's all we really need, right? Give us a break, Mr. Lanni. We should take your word because your such a stand up guy right? Well let's see. I understand that months ago you refused to add your signature to the bill in Carson City supporting the Wynn Dealers in their effort to have the law changed concerning tip-sharing. So publicly Mr. Lanni, you support the idea of not implementing this policy, but privately you refuse to back it up.
So even if we were to take you at your word Mr. Lanni, your word can change at any time. Forgive us if we Mandalay Bay Dealers don't take much stock in your WORD! Now a legally binding agreement? You might have something there. But then again, we won't hold our breath.
Folks, our only shot is a contract. Anything short of that means nothing!

Thank you for your feedback.  Yes we all received that marvelous letter, but we cannot trust 90% of what is told to us, because half of it is not truthful and the other half are lies.  They are just trying to buy time to keep us from forming as a Union and having a Contract that will protect our income, our Benefits and our Future.  So dealers please keep those confidential TWU cards coming in. We must remain strong and united!

01-13-08  From a Mandalay Bay Dealer -Swing Shift

     To all Mandalay Bay dealers:

My question is this: Why is management so against our dealers unionizing? How will it hurt them? It won't.       Now   upper management, that's another story. Those multi-million dollar bonuses that our COO Mr. H and our  CEO Mr. L enjoy so much might get a slight trimming.  Improved health and retirement benefits, pay scale raises,   PTO incentives, and toke security all cost money.  But isn't that a small price to pay to build up morale and loyalty among their dealers? Remember a happy dealer is a productive dealer and that translates to higher profits for  everyone.

In response to your  questions and comments: Yes it's upper management that fears the most the prospect of all the dealers in Las Vegas and  Reno as well, become one unit as in a union.  Than we will have a say over our present and future.  They have their own contracts so why do they  oppose this? Well it is a small price to pay, but that's not what it's all about ,it's about Control! And that's how management wants to keep it, guess what without a contract nothing is ever going to change for the better, and you are giving up your choices and it will get worse.  We don't want to wait till it's to late .

NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR FUTURE!
