Have you often wondered why cocktail waitresses
earn an hourly wage of about twice what dealers earn. Being on the front
line, the dealer welcomes the customer, wishes them luck, deals to them,
cheers them on when they win, sympathizes when they lose, jokes with them,
basically entertains them and keeps them playing sometimes for hours at a
time. We also put up with their abuse when they drink too much or lose or
both. The cocktail waitress, on the other hand, serves drinks. She will
spend an average of 2 seconds taking their order and 4 seconds delivering
their drink, and that
includes collecting her tip. Sound fair? No, we not saying that a cocktail
waitress shouldn't earn what they do, only that dealers should earn at least
that amount. That's an example of what a union
for the dealers can do for you; they can negotiate a higher pay scale for
you. Nearly all of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip negotiate with
Unions in other departments and manage to stay in business. Why would there
be any issue with us having a Contract?
