02-24-08 So we got a raise!! Most of the dealers
that have been at the Mandalay Bay since day one are going to be
making .11cents more than new hires. Gee, So let's see what has MGM/Mirage
done for us? Nothing, they just showed us how valuable we are to them,
3% or is it .26 cents? There are dealers that received .08 cents
as a raise and they have 25 years with the company. So the
longer you are with the Corporation the less you shall receive. Thank
you MGM/Mirage for showing us how much you appreciate us and our loyalty.
We have to get those TWU Cards Filled, Signed and Mailed in!!!!
We work for one of the giants of America's gaming industry, yet
apparently there is a goal to keep our wages at the very minimum of what the
government requires. As a
result, we rely on the generosity of our players for the bulk of
our income. We should not have to be dependent on our lawmakers
for our employer's wage increases. The way the economy is increasing we
will find ourselves with either two jobs or putting at risk of losing what
we have worked so hard to have.
Did you know that dealers
are the lowest paid laborers in the hotel industry? At Mandalay Bay, we
now make $7.75 per hour. That's more than $3.00 per hour less than
their lowest paid union worker. Ever wonder why? It must be because we make
tips. But then again, don't waiters and waitresses make tips? Don't bellmen
and valets make tips? Don't maids, cocktail waitresses, and bartenders all
make tips? So why are we dealers excluded from earning a fair wage?
This is why we need a collective bargaining voice, To Protect and Secure
our Future.
