Who We Are
We are your friends and co-workers. We are
your fellow Mandalay Bay dealers. We Are the Union!
This site is devoted to an issue that effects our
community. It is not about division. It is not
about ‘them’ vs. ‘us’. It's not about any kind
of anger that others will claim that we have. It is about
the prospect of an earlier retirement. It is about the chance of
getting sick without
the worry of if or how our medical bills will be taken care of. It is
about taking responsibility for our own future. It is not about
getting even with anybody.
There are sound reasons why we
want to unite ourselves. We are not troublemakers. We are not hired
goons. We are your coworkers, neighbors, friends, and relatives. We
go to the same parks, shops, and restaurants. Our kids attend the
same schools.
We are blessed with being able to live in one of the most fabulous
places on the planet. Most of us are willing to sacrifice a great deal
to live here, but security in the workplace, or lack thereof, is
where a growing number of us are drawing the line.

Come on Dealers , What are you
waiting for? You can't possibly believe that Management will
know who writes in or fills out a card or form (from your
computer) I cannot believe that you guys have that much fear. Print out the form, fill it out
sign and send, easy as 1,2,3.
If you don't own a printer ask
around to the dealers you work with, you will be surprised how
many dealers will be happy to get you a card. Stop day dreaming
and waiting, What are you waiting for? At least send in some
feedback and answer that one!! You have nothing to fear but Fear
itself or The Power MGM/Mirage has over the dealers Income,
Benefits and Future!! You guys are Allowing this to happen!!! Come on
Smarten Up, Wake up! Show Management what you've got!!

You have
just taken a big step towards securing your future, Just by looking into this
site! I want to clear up something that seems to be confusing a lot of the
dealers. Filling out and Signing a Confidential TWU Authorization Card is
ONLY to declare to the Labor Board(NLRB) that you would like to have the
option to vote. The voting does not begin till we have the majority, which
is 70% of the dealers cards sent in. So give yourself the options that are
available to you and sign and send in a card today! Don't wait and see
till it's to late!!! I Urge you as your webmaster Please Wake up! Don't put your
trust in someone that really only care about their own interest!!!
So guys What's
the hold up? I hear questions such
as "When are we going to vote?" Well, as soon as you send in your TWU
Confidential Card, Signed and Filled out. For the vote it IS Imperative. It
is our only option. It is something we must achieve. It must be compelling
enough to the (NLRB) National Labor Relations Board in order for them to come in and
allow the union to be put to a vote!
So What's the hold up? YOU!
The sooner you act. the sooner we can
get this VOTE ON!!!!

Courage
The Wynn dealers have been very courageous
going against management while working in the best job in town. Many
of us at the Mirage felt rejected when we weren't chosen to go to
the Bellagio. And rejected again when so many were ignored after
applying at the Wynn. To see dealers with the best job in town stand
up for themselves ... and win ... gives many of us the courage we
need to stand up for ourselves too.
Caesar's Palace Dealers are strong, and
determined not to be bullied.
And they won! We hope to be next.
Working conditions are not going to get better for us. Working conditions will only get worse unless we have the muscle
behind us that we deserve. The Transport Workers Union will be our
muscle.
This is a great opportunity for us to have representation.
This Union drive is not anything
against our Supervisors, Pit Managers or our beloved MandalayBay.
Some are very nice people, and we enjoy working with them.
Much like a nice player who enjoys their time with us, wins big and
does not tip, their "being nice" does not pay our bills. This
is not anything personal. This is about our job security.

Changes
Many of us do not understand what a Union
involves and where it can benefit this community. Do not let the
skeptics distort what our Union will be. They’ll try to make our Union the unknown, but
in reality, we will make up the Union; we are the known. Decisions
made by upper management are the unknown. What is the next cut
they’ll make? Vacations? Health Insurance? Taking our tips away? The
last sounds ridiculous, but
it has already
happened in another casino.
The next owners of MandalayBay
are the unknown. Do you remember what happened when MGM
bought the MandalayBay? Did the situation improve when the owners of
MGM bought MandalayBay? Was this good for the employees and the
community? They can change policy, and these buyers are truly the
unknown. Will they sell off the properties one by one, only to
subject us to yet another set of changes?
If we have a Contract, we
have some certainty. Any future owners of the property here at the
MandalayBay must abide by the
contracts already in place with its current employees. Again, if
there’s no contract, there’s nothing by which they must abide.

Contract and Security
We want the MandalayBay to be successful, and as
Union members, we believe that we would do an even better job than
we already do.
We are inviting
professionals to help us to secure our livelihood. We are skilled at our service industry
profession, but we are inexperienced with employer-worker contracts.
We struggle like anybody else to make ends meet, and don’t have the
time or background to be able to represent ourselves with the same
expert assistance that our employer benefits. The TWU are the ones who
will help us with the administrative
duties of organizing and negotiating, a lot like a professional
athlete’s agent negotiates a contract. The athletes have no problem
with compensating agents for their assistance, and neither do we.
For now, the primary issue is deciding that, collectively, we need a
Contract.
A Contract would help us to bring security to our workplace. As
workers who pool their tips. We want co-workers who contribute to a positive work environment and
believe we that it can be much better than it is. Even if you don’t
work for MandalayBay, we still need your support.
With the help of the National Labor
Relations Act, we have some power to draw the line where enough is
enough. The only question is whether or not we decide, as a group,
to do so. If the Nevada Supreme Court rules against
Wynn Dealers
of Las Vegas about their sharing of tips with management, MGM would
be free to follow suit with a similar scheme, because this tactic will increase
both profits and stock value.
Anybody who wants to know the difference between working a Union
versus non-Union job needs to go no farther than their local
supermarket. They are compensated with
better insurance, and certainly better pay - dollars per hour more.
Our Fire Fighters have their Union. Our Teachers have their
Union, and we can still learn by their example. We need our own
Union.
A Union brings
democracy into our jobs. We live in a democracy, but we work
under a dictatorship. We would prefer to have a
democracy in both aspects of our lives. This is America



We need representation.
Organizing a Union is our right. It is Federal Law.
This is the first step in the process:
Fill out a TWU Authorization card
for the chance to be part of the MandalayBay Dealer's Union!
Understand that signing this card simply
tells the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) that we want to vote
for a
Union.
PRINT
the TWU Authorization Card.
SIGN it.
MAIL it to the address on the card.
After we vote to be represented by the TWU
(Transport Workers Union of America),
the TWU negotiates all changes in our benefits between the
MandalayBay Dealers and MandalayBay Management.
The TWU doesn't decide what we do....WE decide what we want to do.
We are the union "The Dealers"
The TWU becomes our collective voice!
You are no longer alone when you're discriminated against and when
no one will listen to you!
We are no longer helpless when the Corporation makes demands on us
arbitrarily.
